Hi.

We have a Ford Mondeo tdci 1998 cc 2003 which is causing us major headache. We brought the car from new and up until now it has been fine.

No garage seems to be able to fix it.

The problem first started about a month ago when a driver just broke down out of the blue, he said, "the glow plug light came on and the car cut out".

We sent recovery out for the vehicle but when they arrived the car started.

We carried on using it on locals for a week or so and everything was fine until it happened again, glow plug light flashes on and the car cuts out. Leave it for 10 - 20 mins and it starts.

We have put it into a number of different garages who have all tried different things.

So far the car has had changed :-

4 x injectors
Glow plug relay
also our local garage said they had put a new relay the diesel pump ??

The car has high mileage but it hasn't ever missed a service.

Any Ideas guys??

I bought a Ex PH Mondeo Zetec-S TDCI, I had exactly the same problem. I also used to work for a local ford dealer down here in Plymouth so i knew what was happening. Exact same thing happened to me, Ive even got a video of it happening on my phone. I must ask, did u get ur injectors done at a ford dealer? if not, then they might not be configured correctly. Ford have a system called (IIRC) WDS and basicly that is the only system that can configure the injectors.

I'll be honest, once my mondeo had this trouble, I quickly got rid of it. Its not worth hanging on to, it will cost u an arm and a leg!

Even worse when mine decided to cut out doing 70 along the A38 and was coming up to a corner and steering lock came on! Let me tell you that I had to change my undercrackers after that!

it will probably be one of the sensors

cam or crank

not expensive about £20 and easy fitting

check for all things moneo on here

http://www.fordmondeo.org/forum/showtop ... id/776655/

ive got a 130 tdci 6 speed - i had the boost hose split, loud wooshing noise+black smoke, taped the hose up and cleaned the EGR, i run it with the vacuum pipe off (and bunged) and i get 48mpg and 350mph

(well, not quite on the mph)

injectors/ECU/inj pump all have to sing in unison, and only Fraud can do that

If youve had the Car 5 years already Im guessing its pretty much served you well and Cost you little..maybe Get shot of it now rather than chase More Exploratory Garage Bills and still end up with the same Problem.

its paid for, no HP to pay, a few bills are a minor irritation compared to paying out £10K or finding £300 pcm

i thought get a new van and bought a citroen, £16K with the interest/admin/dvla fees

i wish id stuck with the smiley transits!

new doesnt always mean better or more reliable....

and the tax allowances dint offset the loss of it every month for its 2 weeks in the workshop

Hi you didnt mention the mileage, but if you have done over 200,000 miles then it may be injectors, egr valve, intercooler hose/tank etc etc big Ford Main dealer bill, only they have the computers to calbrate. They also have very few machanics only techees who go on what the computer error code says. They start with the cheapest item to replace then work there way down the list. Sounds like it would be better to let it go to a better place. If I only knew then what I know now.
