Sorry about the repeat posts I keep getting a critical error message.

Anyway, taxi-boss, are you saying you never fined drivers (£2) for not signing up new customers to your discount scheme on a daily basis(thanks for the mailshot, btw  )?

Didn't know you had given up your semi pro poker player status. That bad huh?

Mailshot?..... Was that the Discount Despatch?......LOL

Yes Jimbo that's exactly what i am saying, drivers that did submit the card applications forms had their shift charges waived, those that didn't paid shift charges. I have never fined a driver for any reason whatsoever.

I have played poker in one form or another since being a young boy, i played the main UK poker tour for 3-4 years where i was lucky enough to win 3 UK ranking events, I had to stop due to other commitments last year.

Some, including me, would view your first answer as disingenuous.

Your second answer could be interpreted as that you were not a very good poker player.

Next question is though, if you cut a fare from say, Asda to Holly Street from £5:40 to £3:50 who takes the loss, you, or the driver?

Your rental has gone up £3 in 18 years ...wow!

That either means it was expensive to start with......or perhaps 200 cabs make up for the original shortfall?

Why did your advert state "Taxi fares slashed" when you are a private hire operator?

The term "Taxi" is allowed by trading standards if also accompanied by the words "Private Hire" which is stated in all of my ad's.

Well, thanks for the free advertising.

Maybe a better explanation is required regarding the loyalty card application forms.

When we first started out with the cards there were no shift charges for commission drivers, at that time we took on a large number of extra commission drivers and it was decided that we needed a larger advertising budget. As i have already stated on here, drivers didn't particularly like the idea of knocking 10% off a fare for card holders so in an attempt to get the drivers to try and promote the cards we brought in shift charges. Those drivers that promoted the card's had shift charges waived, those that didn't, put £2 per week into our advertising pot, commission driver shift charges remain in place to this day even though the card has now finished. Hope this makes more sense?

As far as your question about the fares, who takes the loss if there is no job at all?

It's a cute way of fining drivers for not signing up new members to an artificial "discount" to a private hire company.

A con trick to get more money out of drivers and make them work for less.

Nothing at all, but I personally felt that something really needed to be done, i also believe many more would do the same if they felt that they could do without getting a whipping from drivers or through fear of drivers leaving.

My point is if your competitors discount to the rate you are on at present, or maybe lower, then how does that benefit your drivers if they haven't gained work yet have lost money on each job? :?

first indications show that we are already seeing a small increase in job numbers, obviously i also need to monitor the driver takings/owner profits very closely indeed.

Shift charges form about 75% of my company's overall advertising budget, these charges are for commission drivers only, don't forget we don't charge our owners for double shifting in their car's and commission drivers earn between 40-50% of their takings, so in effect the charge balances things out. More commission drivers work for us than at any other local company, so it can't be such a bad thing, can it?

I noticed this morning, as I notice every morning, at a PH office just around the corner from yours, two sometimes three out of town plated PH sat outside, ever thought of complaining to the licensing department?
