My son is looking to go onto PH for the first time. He's 22 and had his drivers license a year, with no claims.
He's looking to put a 2005 Vectra on (not that that's really relevant).

Any idea on his insurance cost? What are you paying please if there are any other young lads ont he forum.

Just so he's got an idea before he goes to his insurer etc.

Any info appreciated...

At a guess I would say £2500 - £3000.

Tip him upside down if that fails check down the back of the sofa. They are going to have his pants down with insurance at that age especially at 22. Like Sussex said you'll be looking at £2500-£3000. Tell him to leave it until he's 25 the insurance won't be as much then.

As for the No Claims I don't think you can transfer them over if your Taxi driving for the first time.

My first quote when I started was £5,000 although I do think that was at a time when insurance was particularly high. I finally got it 6 months later for £3,500. :D

My first insurance for PH was £3600 for fully comp and £1800 for third party fire and theft. That was for a 40 something with no accidents.

when i had a PH car back in 1990 and took on a minibus my fresh extra premium with Norwich Union was £1500

ive just swapped my commercial vehicle (XLWB sprinter, 50,000 miles a year, Haulage insured) No Clams Bonus onto the Tourneo and its costing me £1000 a year

when i had 3 big vans my broker loved me...................

The best advice is shop around, most will reduce the price if the excess is high

in todays economic climate any new business should be welcome.

yes...it "Should be"..but it isnt..the Insurers just keep bumping up the price and the Excess. An excess of say £300 quid probably deters around 75% of claims being made...even up to £400 pound and Id still probably pay for the repair out of my own pocket just to keep them from bumping up the premiums still further in the future due to lost NCB...either way you look at it they've got ya by the short and curlys...

Its that wee bit that asks " any Claims in the last five years" that scares me..
