its quite easy, the % of WAVs should be the same as the % of wheelchair users in the population....

population 60 million, wheelchair users 12 million = 20%

I think your figures are incorrect.....I understand there are no figures for the number of wheelchair bound people.

I hope that's just a guess.

Our (not very scientific) guestimates put wheelchair users at less than 1% of the total population.
Most of them can and do use saloons. Many even prefer this to a WAV.

I would put it at around half a mill folk in wheelchairs, and half of them are already catered for in old folks homes

If you look about its a fair guess its 1% or under thats a wheelchair user...otherwise we'd be tripping over them at every turn. at least wheel chair users are genuinely disabled unlike around 30% of walking stick users who often use a stick as a means to a disability allowance and an incapacity benefit cheque..that really bugs me..herpling around on a stick, hogging disabled bays when they can walk and work just fine...if they wanted to..

it doesnt follow that a wheelchair user is going to be a WAV customer, take off the ones who have thier own adapted vehicles under the mobility scheme, and those who wouldnt get in a taxi anyway...

my example of 20% (even if way too high) demolishes the case for 100% WAV fleets

the problem starts when one "activist" decides to go public "Wheelchair user waited 7 hours for a wheelchair taxi" and thats all the publicity needed, then a MP gets on the bandwagon (vote winner) and the ball is rolling...
