I kind of agree. If the losers in your drivers case was a multinational firm, then hey ho, but if the losers were working folk, then methinks he shouldn't be let back in.

Double standards

This is what the rules allow. It is not just government that allow these things. My brother in law used to work for HSBC until he retired. They asked him to work in Malta and they of course paid the rent on his villa in Malta whilst he rented out his home in the Cotswolds. I would sugest that none of you, if you were in the same position, would not do the same.

I think it is acceptable that if somebody has to move somewhere to do a job then the company or government should provide accom. but they shouldn't be expected to pay for anything else. If you have a home elsewhere that you would normally pay a mortgage or rent etc on then that should still remain your responsibility

He was renting out his London home. He wasn't claiming expenses for that home. He was claiming the expenses for his home in his constituency as per the rules.

I know but I don't think it should be allowed. He has to live somewhere and one would expect to have to pay for that home oneself. He should then be provided with suitable accomodation in London, end of.

Not quite "end of" As a member of parliament a person is expected to "live" in their constituency some of the time so that they can deal with constituency matters, hold surgeries etc. So that "home" can have certain expenses claimed on it. They are also expected to be available to parliament so they require to "live" within a certain distance from westminster. This home can also have expenses claimed. However some members, usually ministers, also get the use of a "grace and favour" appartment so that they are available during emergencies.
Before becoming MPs most of these people would have had their own home anyway and as the job of an MP can be taken away in a reletivly short time, are you sugesting that they should have to sell their own home or leave it empty for the duration?
