I've just dropped my car off for it's hackney test. This will be test number 3 on a car that was brand new out of the box less than a year ago. The first test was the day after I bought the car. It still had the PDI paperwork in the glovebox. This was followed by another 6 months later, and now today's (10 days early, just in case). Is the frequency too short on a car so young, or would annual testing till the car is three/four years old, followed by every 6 months, seem more appropriate?

Do other LA's have such stringent rules?

We have ours tested strait out the wrapper, but we only have one test a year
3 tests a year on a new vehicle is excessive
One owner had 2 skodas delivered strait to the test station from the taxi centre, and the tester was speechless as they still had all the cling film on

Ours are also tested once a year even when brand new but if you have a vehicle which is over 5 years old it is every 6 months plus they call us in at random every year or so for VOSA to test them.

Dundee also has one test a year even for brand new vechiles and goes up 2 tests after five years and i think it goes up to 3 tests after 8 years.3 tests a year for a brand new vechiles is not needed. The test centre must make a fortune.Dose this help keep down the cost of your licence fee as aren't they only allowed to cover there expenditure.

2 council tests per year in Aberdeen, regardless of age, and an MOT every year from 12 months old (3 years old for PH).
