the days of me changing clutches has long gone, last one i did was a cavalier front wheel drive, which is one of the few FWD cars that can be done without parting the engine from the gearbox

you needed a GOOD set of clutch clamps though, like little U things, cheap ones like the first i tried wouldnt hold the clutch depressed, easy job with some sykes-pickavant version or maybe snap-on

I think you will find the Skoda (VAG group) has a DMF...

I believe there is a replacement kit available which does away with the DMF

same with the mondeos, BUT, the reason there IS a DMF is to cushion driveline components from the huge amounts of torque from these new Tdci/Hdi engines, so who knows...... clutch every 100,000 miles or a new gearbox, driveshafts, diff instead?
My tourneo had the same problem at 195,000mls, rattling a bit on tickover, it was prudent to change the DMF & clutch before it took out any other bits when it expoded!

Thanks for all your replies; and thanks Skippy for the link. I've joined that forum - looks as though it should be a good help...
