What version is it?

The earlier 8. versions had problems with the update, I believe it was fixed in the recent 8.5.

Completely uninstall the old version before installing the new one.

We're OK on AVG. Download the free version which, as it is enhanced, prompts you to upgrade to the next version. Auto virus check and file update every night. Works perfectly.

NB; They have changed their name recently to free.avg.com (I believe!)

I'd get anti-virus, if I were you. Safer.

No need to reinstall. just register it for free. :D
I haven't had any viruses since I started using it.

I used to use AVG but found version 8 was slowing my computer down.
