Anyone have any tips about th best way for powering a laptop in car for maybe six hours minimum a day?
Roughly speaking the options seem to be:
- 12v socket adaptor, but I'm not sure how the car battery would handle this if I use it a couple of hours without the car running. Plus my VW's power sockets only work with the ignition on, so I either have it on all the time or get an auto electrician to sort out some wiring.
- Power pack with inverter, which I could put in the boot or perhaps under the seat. Problem is it takes maybe thirty hours to recharge from mains, so daily use wouldn't be practical, and I'm not sure how it would charge from the cars's power source, particularly since as I said the sockets only work with the ignition on.
- An external laptop battery - don't know how reliable they are though - the big manafacturers don't seem to do them, and I don't think they're readily available in the shops. which makes me think they're a bit dodgy.
Ideally I'll be spending a lot less than £100 and I'd prefer something that doesn't involved lots of wires and/or an auto-electrician.
