Taxi outcry as alleged fare evader loses leg

The Taxi Council of South Australia says it does not condone the actions of a taxi driver who allegedly ran over a passenger who tried to run off without paying.

The teenage boy was hit early on Sunday at Woodville Gardens and has had a leg amputated because of the incident, which happened in First Avenue. Police are still seeking the driver involved.

Wally Sievers from the Taxi Council says fare evasion is a big problem for the industry. "There's a lot of it that goes unreported but it would be a significant number, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights, but we do not condone in any way the alleged incident where a driver took the action that he did," he said.

Mr Sievers says the taxi industry will provide any help police need in their investigation.

Oh well if he ran over his arm as well, then I suppose he could say the fare cost him an arm and a leg, Emm expensive.

The truth of the matter is that the authorities do not take these matters serious enough until something goes wrong, so this is part of their doing and will happen again until they also take a stand against what is going on.We have all been there when quite frankly you could quite happily run someone over and kill them, and I believe that I would if it were not for the fact that the police get a bit ar$ey about it.

I think Wannabee is sugesting that the punishment should fit the crime. Basically if you take my eye, I will take your eye. Or in this case, you try to leg it, I take your leg.

All good stuff! A guy with only 1 leg approaches you to take him home you say no, ''cos you will do a runner mate''. ....... & then a guy turns up with 1 arm approaches you to take him home you say no, ''cos your a thief mate''.......then a guy turns up with 1 hand you say no, ''cos you are a winker''
