Why is your GP so much more expensive than everybody else?

More to the point, if HGV drivers can have a £45 medical and my medical was supposed to the same, why was I sent to the county occy health and charged £115?

because they are using goverment guidlines on charging prices, some like my doc has reviewed his price to around £95

our LA requires taxi drivers to have a medical insight of medical history documents

i asked the doctor about this, he said we dont do taxi medical using medical history in front of us, its an independant medical

put it like this he said, when you have your car MOT the vehicle mechanic does not require the vehicle service history in front of him ,he knows like the doctor what he is looking for

a taxi medical to a doctor is classed as "private work" over and above his normal practise work

We're 46 then 51 56 61 and every year from then on. cost included in the licence renewal fee. 6 doctors/health centres specified for the test. If the council realise the medical costs more than licence then we're fecked.

I suspect they do take it up on behalf of their members, and I also suspect the lads moaning aren't members of the above.

dont moan shop around this lot sound good and plenty of locations. http://www.driversmedicals.com/index.html £49 all in, you are not alone truck and bus drivers are under the same rules as taxi/ph drivers, ie 1 at first licence and then at 45 then every 5 years after that, next year i have to get 2 done.

the point is i had no choice, the LA only allows locally the use of stafford occy health dept

and im able to drive a 7.5tonner on my licence without a medical....with a trailer if needs be under grandad rights

why are councils able to dictate where a driver gets a medical done, surley thats against anti competion rules
Our "conditions" state that the medical must be carried out by your own G.P. or a "Consultant who has full access to your medical records". My G.P is a one-man practice and employs a receptionist whose manner could sometimes be construed as being deliberately obstructive. As a consequence I had to wait 10 days for an appointment to part with my £80.00    I mentioned this to a retired dinner lady who is now a councillor and who boasts to taxi drivers of her position on the Licensing Committee. Her reply left me absolutely stunned, she said, "I did not realise you lads had to have medicals to drive taxis"!!!! Nothing like taking an interest

I went to register with a new surgery and today i was invited to have a chat with a doctor why i was moving. told him the reason i was moving was because it close to my home and also they had low medical fees.he asked if my wife and kids where moving i told him they where not moving because my wife said the doctor knows the medical problem my son has. and it would take the new doctor some time to understand. i have been told that i cant be a patient without my family. so i said whats my family got to do with my health. he came up with some crap about child abuse family problems ect

Hi Stinky can you point out the bit in conditions that says you have to go to your own doc for medical, (i take it your on about york) had a look couldnt find anything got 2 medicals in august truck and taxi and will be going to http://www.driversmedicals.com/index.html £49 for 1 and an extra £5 to fill in the second form.

We've just sourced a doctor who's going to do our medicals for £25, he'll do them between 2pm and 5pm for 3 days a week. He's getting some cash in his pocket plus we are happy chappies. He's not a bad doctor either. You've got to ask about, there are plenty out there who will do the medical without the need to charge the full price.
