However if they (the customer) want to go outside the boundary from the off then I do not see that it is within the jurisdiction of the L.A to tell us what the fare can be.

They can't. [-X

But that opens the door for those cherrypickers?

I agree, but the law is the law.

I dont disagree, but £30 to go through a 2 mile tunnel to another area?

I know its the customers choice, I know they can always say 'no', but the fact is it happens and needs addressed, when it is addressed (as it surely will be) it will not be to the cab trades advantage?

The trouble is this! Whilst we are there to provide a service, as far as I am concerned my first duty is to provide for my family! and if I can genuinely assist someone (from outside the area) to get home without hitting the family pocket then I do not have a problem.

To put it finely, If shall we say a 15 mile journey comes up which gives me xxx on the meter then I do not expect to lose out financially as opposed to staying within the City and earning more. When I go outside the boundaries and therefore charge a little bit more to cover the dead mileage/loss of flags/tips, then I think it is fair to charge a little bit extra (no not greedy) to cover what you could possibly have earned if you stayed within.

Remember you are a business not a charity and every other form of transport went home hours ago, people have been out spending their money in the pubs clubs and every other form of entertainment - and we have got to give happy hour at 4/5am - I do not think so.

Maybe it is a local thing, but I usually take more money at night when I do the out of town jobs rather than just the local jobs. We don't get many return pick ups even from local jobs so the dead miles are the same if you do 1 x 10 mile run or 5 x 2 mile runs. The chances of doing 5 x 2 mile runs in the time you have been on the 10 mile run are very slim indeed.
