I wish I could live in Tootsville, but, then people would think me more crazy than they already do

I kinda like your nickname it's certainly better than the one I acquired from the other drivers. Perhaps you should post something a little more light hearted to lift your mood

I shall try Karen, though it's a tall order when you read certain ppl on here, who are infact acting like a punter who doesn't want to pay effectively, I find it funny how this site seems to have plenty of members but only a handfull post, and other than the info posts which are a good read, seem to be brainwashing anyone reading to their way of thinking, which is clearly not in the trades interest, and certainly not in a drivers interest either.

Imagine we let them have it their way, there'd be drivers fighting each other over fares, 60 mph in 30 mph zones all day, clapped out cars that there is never enough downtime to keep clean, they won't be maintained because the driver won't have enough money to keep it roadworthy (see any of the posts about cars being taken off the road when theres a purge by the police) for proof, ohh yes what a great idea, an individual cab for every individual, we could call it Trekkie Cars so whenever someone wants a cab they only have to step outside and it's there waiting for them, you ring Lt Uhura and she says...ok I'm just energising you a car right now, tbh I'm sick of em Toots, it shows through what the real problem is and it's envy, the fact they have to pay a circuit and get their badge form signed each year, they hate that anyone else has what they don't but aren't prepared to stump up for a position that's worth having, I bet if you asked most PHD's what they thought they would after thinking about it for a while agree that all the TDO magic circle plans would result in less wages and increased numbers, anyway luv I will try to brighten it up a bit in future, but I can't promise it.

I don't think there will ever be a solution that suits everybody in taxi-ing, but, there certainly should be a fairer one that enables drivers to be able to earn a decent living without driving themselves to a heart attack in the process. Anyway keep smiling it makes you feel good :D

I'll agree there, but whether you drive PH or HC there is an owner to pay for the use of their equipment, but when you add this up

Insurance - £20 pw
Car Payments - £50 - £80 pw estimated
WAV Payments - £150 pw
Maintenance - £20 pw
Licences - £10 pw
Radio - £100 pw estimated

So someone who owns a saloon will face costs of £200 pw using £50 as car repayments.

And a WAV owner = £300 pw

Now where's the profit for the owner in a £270 pw full time payin, and that's before we talk about paying the taxman his tax on profits, so when they get their way I'd like to know whose going to run a cab for someone else at a loss, the way they say drivers getting ripped off doesn't add up, even if the driver puts his own car on he's still starring at £250 pw running costs and he also has to live with the fact it's £600 for a clutch, £2k for an engine or gearbox, plus he won't have cab bonus for his insurance so that will be £40pw minimum, what they forget is that some drivers cannot get finance, so someone else running a car and them having no risks is ideal for them, or shall we make the arguement even more stupid and say uncreditworthy ppl aren't allowed a badge because they can't get their own cab, next will come the my car doesn't cost that routine and I'll be Independant, fine, but not all councils allow you to plate Auntie Madge's old Morris Oxford and if everyone goes Indy there isn't the work to cater for them, which then forces them into a circuit at £100 pw, back 2 square 1, the heart attack arises because of the down time in the car and the long hours forced on us to make it pay, that applies to both owners and drivers, plus no excercise and poor diet doesn't help either, thx for seeing what I try to say anyway Toots, and it means more to me because you are PH.
