find a proper tyre man

i.e. when i wanted a tyre off my steel spare onto an alloy id bought as a spare kwikFit wanted £25+ vat and said "but we would have to inspect the tyre your gonna use"

Mr Tyre took a tenned and did it

and my back street guys have charged less

How do you think KwikFit got to having big garages and suchlike

I needed 2 tyres on a mondeo, ATS had an offer, great, while in there with two others i saw each approached..

"your tracking is out mate, we can do that"

they came to me

"your front pads are low mate, we can do that"

when they quoted £125 to fit front pads i told em not to bother

10,000 miles later the pads were still fine

I thought it was only me that garages thought they could have off. I know it doesn't help matters when I have a vacant look cos I have no idea what they are talking about. Fortunately for me I have lots of friends who know about the cars so I always have somebody to ask if I need advice about my car :D

I always stick to the one I know, if I need a puncture repaired its a tea box deposit, if I get tyres from the scrappy its a tea box deposit
but i do tend to buy new off them so valves and balance are free, I only get tyres from the scrappy if the tyre cannot be repaired its not a good practise to fit a new one whilst you have 3 part worn ones on

Well they say it comes in 3's. The brake pad light has come on now and the light that tells me a bulb is out is also flashing up. I'll have to find a kind hearted person to change the bulb for me and I don't even want to think about the cost of getting the brake pads done eusasmiles.zip

A word for the future, never buy French,American or Italian cars they just don't build them very well.

Best pound for pound cars are Vauxhall,Skoda,Toyota and possibly Ford.

I love my Pug I just don't have anybody to fix it anymore when it needs it, but, I'll figure it out. I don't like Vauxhall at all the Skoda is ok. I quite like Toyota and I used to drive a canary yellow Ford Focus Estate but I couldn't go anywhere without being seen  they used to call it the flying banana

Out of all of them the Toyota is the one, I've yet to find a cabby who didn't replace one with another one, I drove a Carina 2 back in the 80's, it was nimble, economic and comfortable, there's been a couple of Avensis 1's and we have 4 Avensis 2's running about, and not one complaint, they win the JD Power almost every year.

If you are going to be keeping the car for a while, try Kwikfit for the brakes. After you have bought the first set, they will replace them free for as long as you keep the car according to their advertising.

Steer clear of Kwik Fit Grandad, I've got a Vauxhall Signum and last year I took it to Kwik Fit for some new brake pads, I dropped it off and told them to ring me when it was finished. They phoned me an hour later to tell me that they hadn't done the work because I needed new disks, I said that's a load of bull because I'd checked the discs before I took it to Kwik Fit. I said leave it I'll pick the car up and do the job myself.

I took the car to another garage and asked them to change the brake pads and also to check the discs, the did both and told me that the discs were spot on and were not showing any signs of wear.

Kwik Fit are a con everything that they advertise at their depots should carry a big con warning.

Most folk keep a car 4 or 5 years and a new disc for normal drivers should last that anyway, ill ask kwikfit for a quote (not saying its a taxi till after), ask about that lifetime warranty then ask my men what they pay for decent discs and pads...
