406 HDi (90) 42 mpg at the very best on night shift around town and suburbs with some country lane work, if plenty of 4 passenger runs then down to 38/39. Never have more than half tank of fuel at these times 'cause of added weight.

52 to 56 mpg on 'A' road keeping it down to steady 55/60 mph with gentle acceleration on a 35 mile each way school run. Mind, get a couple of tractor/trailers with tons of veggie or sileage up plus a queue of artics and cars behind them ...

Worst is day shift in town, loads of idling and low gear; 36 to 39 mpg.

I used to run on LPG. It was a very good experience. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a car with the right engine to convert this time. But...I'll be back....or words to that effect!!

Zafira average 50.4 mpg ,but steady 60mph mostly motorway work, down to 47 mpg if doing 70mph. Not 3 bad, I fancied the octavia estate 1.9 DSG, on reflection I wasn't sure about the life expectancy of the gearbox. Mr Clarkson recons the DSG box is spot on and he V fussy.

Peugeot 307SW 1.6hDi - I only do long distance airport runs and get 68 mpg and this drops to 63mpg with full load in car.

Maximum I got out of it was 74mpg when dawdlding back from Heathrow doing about 65mph
