If hacks did get tachos inflicted on them it would require a rethink on procedure as any vehicle movement means a 45 minute break period has to start again...

I think that's what's stopping tachos happening, and maybe for good.

Can't see how the powers that be will be able to differentiate between standby time i.e. HC ranking or PH waiting time, and working time i.e. punters on board.

You could say a meter might help, but what if PH don't have them, or a HC goes on a long run with it off.

But all that said, I'm one of the few who would support a sensible maximum working week.

as soon as u get tachos it will be messed up................... drivers will only work weekend min hours for max.......... if u sit on a feeder rank then a rank for 2 hours 10 mins is that classed as a break or working......... and if your on a long job do u have to tell the customer u have to stop for a break.

how about making a rule off, to be a taxi/p/h driver you can only do it as a full time job. if u leave the trade to work in b and q then you must give your badge back to the council untill u want to work in it full again. maybe then we can sort to earn a living without working 18 hours day.

While your in the car you'll be classed as working, it will be 4 and a half hours then a 45 minute break, then another 4 and a half hours then another 45 minute break then an hour and a half driving then your done for the day.

you would have to assess if you had enough driving time to do the job (and get back if thats your wish....)

truckers have to do it and have done for many years, and a mate on a coach back from spain had to sit at dover when the driver ran out of hours and 2 new drivers came down from Hull..

I dont think that the way of the tacho will work, how meny of us will turn away £50 job at the end of a shift/middle of your break?

However i do think we should have a maximum working week.

I was talking to one driver a few weeks ago and he works 7 days a week 12 hours a day 12pm to 12am which is a staggering 84 hours per week. I only work part time and earn as much as him si whats the point, he just works the wrong hours

I know that it is all hypothetical but ( I will be there and back in blah time) will not work because you cannot build into your time schedule hold ups caused by accidents, road works and anything else that comes to mind.

The big difference between us and Truckers is that the Truckers can stop at anytime and it affects no one else - if we stop Joe Public catching his/her plane/train/whatever because we are out of time then the s**t will hit the fan.

No disrespect but I cannot see it working.

It can only work within large organisations who can send a "fresh" driver for the longer jobs and someone near the end of a shift does "local" work. One man bands and very small operators won't have a cat in hells chance.

that wont actually stop HMG from trying it though, especially once any HMG clown has the idea that a) it could mean a requirement for 5000 new drivers to cover the shifts and b) it could regulate/highlight any misuse/under declaration of working time/pay for the purpose of benefit claimants and c) HMRC could delve deeper via the digital tacho card.

it must wind up HMG knowing so much taxi/ph work is cash.....lol
