As I am trying to stop smoking I have splashed out on one of those electronic cigarettes.
Works off a battery and has refills that last for the equivalent of 15 fags.
So far so good, it looks bloody real if your not looking properly as the end glows and what looks like real smoke comes out of your mouth.
I was puffing away last night when the taxi inspector chapped the window and was about to go off on one then he realised it was not real, yes we have a grass on the rank

Day 2 in the quest, woke up without Gandhi's flip flops parked in the mouth, normally have to down 2 coffees to get going along with 2 or 3 fags just a few puffs and felt good

Good luck, Skippy. I last had a cigarette some 8 years ago.

I had the help of the NHS Smoking Cessation Service which worked for me.

I used patches for the slow, regular 'drip' of nicotine and had an inhalator for moments when I needed a quick fix. It was affordable because the patches were on prescription. I put the money I wasn't spending on fags in a jar and we had a holiday in Tenerife within a year - Our first foreign holiday for years! I tasted food for the first time in living memory - Yoghurt was a revelation! My breathing is improved. My sense of smell has improved although in some instances that may not be an advantage!

I have never given up smoking, nothing is missing from my life because I have 'given up.' I am choosing not to smoke. I am perfectly free to light up a cigarette now if I so choose.

A powerful, if cruel, illustration of the effect of smoking was given once: A guy had set his quit date. At the meeting the following week, he was asked how his first smokefree week had gone. His mother had been rushed into hospital and he'd been under too much pressure to stop smoking. 'Did that next cigarette cure your mother?' 'No.' He was unable to come up with a rational explanation for that next cigarette. He stopped there and then and, like me, still hadn't smoked when I saw him a few weeks ago.

The choice that I made all those years ago was the best one I've ever made.

It is your choice as well.

I have never been a smoker and detest the idea. Best of luck to anyone who is trying to quit. My dad used to smoke around 70 a day and stopped overnight. He put on 2 stone and looked better for it. He was hell to be around for about 3 months but he was not home much as he was a long distance lorry driver. I think it was around 1970 when he quit. He is now 83 and as fit as a butchers dog. In fact last year I had to tell him to stop climbing trees and that is no lie. He would be well at home in last of the summer wine.

Been 'smoking' an electronic cigarette or 6 weeks now. First of all came down from 40 a day to 2 a day and now don't bother with bacca fags. I consider it some kind of success story. Apparantly you only get the nicotine fix and none of the other hundreds of 'nasties' that are in normal cigs..

Day 3 woke up after being at the pub last night, did well there even gave them a near heart attack in the legion, by getting my lighter out and pretending to light it, then puffing away. :D
Starting to get the urge to role one even though I binned what was left of my duty free backy, 18.16 PM fitted the second refill much stronger affect feel better now.
Its not going to be easy, after and I hate to admit it 40 years, trying to stop

Well done!!

Keep a bottle of water handy. Drink plenty [of water!!] and keep those nicotine levels high. As Growler said, the nicotine is the addictive part, it's all the other crap that does the damage. It was about 9 months/one year before I threw my plastic fag away.
