your correct about the encroachment,

the hackney carriage isnt the same monster it was 30 years ago either though

other sectors of transport are looking at our profession to see what they can take, all we can do is sit idle because not enough people are prepared to spend the time and effort to correctly fund the national bodies.

I dont see the NTA as a one trick pony, I wouldnt because I'm a member, I know theres honest people in there who do give a fig about whats happening, but hands are tied because of the apathy (a word that suits the profession) & funding.

The NTA's grasp on reality I think would open your eyes, certainly the views of the admin guy don't reflect your conclusion, well they didnt last time i spoke to him.

Fair comment and I accept that not all members are living in the past but there needs to be complete rethink on policy because there are a great many issues that need addressing and the body that is taking the lead role in these matters is the TGWU.

The TGWU rides many horses at the same time, it is noticible how silent they are when it comes to Transport legisaltion. Thats because they have more Bus members than they do Taxi members. We don't seem to fight our corner and we have let bus legislation drive a coach and horses through the 1847 act. Thats what I mean about forward thinking.

It matters not to me who runs our trade only that they are capeable of understanding the issues. Times are a changing and its about time the taxi trade changed with it.

Best wishes

JD

My own feelings are that once limited numbers are no longer an issue a new generation of forward thinkers will emerge who will take this trade into the 21st century.

I'm already here.

Guest,

I think the NTA does listen, but you have to be a member first, its also the same with other trade bodies.

it doesnt its on a different planet
and so Captain, the government isnt a member so it does not listen, councils are not members so it does not listen.

needs a branch up in Gateshead.

I am fed up of reading that its up to the members, its what the members want its utter [edited by admin].

these orgainisations should be leading from the front flagging issues up for thier members, seeing whats going on putting proposals to members.

we dont need someone merely to articulate what we think or talk to the town hall we can do that.

we want proper vision putting forward, the lack of vision creates what we have and its crap.

as a trade we are in the third year of decline, you are right people are moving in, but also the norms are changing

and on our rank the drivers are to blind to see that!

10 years and this trade will be finished for there are better and cheaper ways.

I think this trade has a great future, providing we embrace change and fight stupid proposals before they reach the planning stage.

Alas at the mo, we only fight battles when it's too late.
