I do believe hell will freeze before you do an NVQ  and they don't pay YOU to do it, it just doesn't cost you anything which is what I'm sure you meant :D

As regards your excellence self praise is no recommendation

People are being paid in Preston

I have praise for many things, admittedly these often dont involve driving

They're not suppose to but it is currently being discussed as to whether drivers should be paid for doing the NVQ.

Is that you have praise for many things or you have been praised for many things? I mean I've been praised for many things too but my ability to swing from chandeliers in a very sexy manner is of no use to my driving at all

With regards to the VRQ/Btec and the NVQ the purposes of GoSkills was to achieve consistency of skills throughout the 343 licensing authorities in England and Wales. With the fly by night trainers being allowed to provide this 'training' this objective is obviously not being met. Also if they wanted consistency why do different authorities require different things such as the DSA, why not have the same standards as part of the statute in the first place.

I have often stated that if taxi drivers weren't happy with the courses provided then they should have their reps look into ways of improving it and becoming involved, however, according to GoSkills the taxi trade has already been extensively involved.

In their Guidelines for the Delivery of the NVQ Level 2 in Road Passenger Vehicle Driving to Taxi and PHV Drivers

Quote:
The development of the NVQ was the culmination of an extensive project with the taxi and private hire industries and with stakeholders including licensing authorities to identify and recognise the understanding, knowledge and skills needed to work in these industries

I was just curious as to whom from the industry actually contributed to this qualification and exactly what their contribution was?

So can I take it that no one out there has actually taken the DSA test?

.The DSA in it's (third) presentation to the licensing committee, claimed that successful candidates would get a discount of (up to!!!!!!) 25% on their cab insurance. my broker says only one on his panel of insurance. Anyone out there in taxi land ever got such a discount?

I'm a big fan of the DSA Taxi Test, but the insurance claim is rubbish.

Is the test mandatory for existing drivers? :?[/quot

I let this pass at the time, Sussex, but WHY are you a "big fan of the DSA Taxi test"?

From research, the Taxi test is no different from a standard driving test.

The DSA's own website, from which I downloaded the document, "HACKNEY CARRIAGE/PH ASESSMENT EXPLAINED"

In section 12 says: "If you are riding a motorcycle slowly..." How is that Taxi related?

"You must be able to display the ability to turn your car around by whatever means available..." I'm not the incredible hulk!!! (or bulk).

I could go on, but read it yourselves.

And a 50% fail rate should keep examiners, (who have never driven a Metrocab) in work.....
