Toots I understand where you are coming from, but from my point of view I am sick of being treated like a second class citizen.

The Btec that is out there epitomises all of that, with stuff in there that a six year old could pass who has no aspirations whatsoever of being a taxi driver.

The other thing that you have to take on board is that they will never make it that hard that big numbers of people fail. The reasons being is that the LAs rely on the monies from you and I to keep them in a job!

So if the exam was that hard do you think that they are going to do themselves out of a job/money? Unfortunately we live in a country that has " P C " written all over it and in many cases does courses on a being seen to be seen to be doing something with no real meaning.

I for one will not waste my time nor will I encourage these people by taking part. I am one of the people who you have illustrated being above training, not that I am against purposeful training. The job as has been said is not rocket science but is certainly about choosing the right people, and there is the root cause, they the LAs do not.

They hide behind the excuse of they cannot refuse anyone a license which I believe is a load of tosh. So to take a very extreme situation, a guy turns up with no arms or legs and his one good eye stuck out the back of his head ( sorry if I have described anyone on here ) and wants to be a taxi driver! Do you think that as daft as they can be that they will give that person a license. The answer is obvious, of course they will not which then tells you that they do have leeway when it comes to giving out licenses. If as in any job they do not fit the bill then they do not get the position.

I have said all along that this problem is caused by the LAs, and I for one will not part with my time and money to sort out their mess.

A Btec in this job..............give me a break, to use those undervalued words, it is common sense.

These local authorities that are insisting that their drivers have one of these qualifications, are they telling the drivers that they must go to a certain provider for the training or are drivers free to choose?
What checks are the councils making to ensure that the training is what they require? Are they checking the content? Are they checking the attendance and results? Or are they just taking a photocopy of the certificate?

Oh I can well believe it.

The questions are mega-trivial and treat the candidates as if they have an IQ that is on the same level as people that require special needs education.

Perhaps the course material designers & providers are themselves incapable of any higher standards!!!

It may well be the limit of THEIR capabilities!!

Guys, Guys, this has nothing to do with creating a better cabby, but everything to do with the justification of certain council positions, and certain newly-funded "training organisations", now heres one to marvel at, it could come next...

i call it Borrox Training but many councils have money to blow on it, but probably from EU grants...

I bet the PH operator, who all the drivers had to go to, is still happy with his £48K though

What a f*cking shambles.

I always suggest it (always have) and if they don't want to they don't have to unless of course they are sitting behind me then I insist, it's my life

I'm interested in this 'marking down' what's that all about :?

There's nothing new about this type of course. Use what you can to prove you can do it. Some people 'read & learn', some 'watch & learn' and some 'do & learn'. If you are a hands on person you can read til you're blue in the face and learn jot this creates an unfair system of testing if the only option is to read & write.

In answer to the question of what may happen if you refuse to sign it off and they don't get their funding (if they are entitled to some) they may well ask you for the money
