A TAXI driver who died in an A60 car crash on his 62nd birthday has been hailed as a friend to everyone and "the best father in the world".

Mohammad Ayub, of Oakdale Road, Bakersfield, died after the red Alfa Romeo he was travelling in left the road, mounted a bank and came to rest upside-down in a ditch near Larch Farm, at 4.30am on Saturday.

Mourners gathered yesterday at the Nottingham Islamic Centre, in St Ann's, to remember a man who was "the life of the party".

Eldest son, Mohammad Tahir Ayub, 26, of Bakersfield, said: "He was the best father and grandfather but was also a friend to so many people. He was known as 'Chacha' or uncle to everyone."

Nephew Tariq Mahmood, 45, of Sneinton, said: "When my father died 19 years ago, Chacha became more than an uncle to me – he was like a father.

"You would always be laughing when in his company, he was a great, great man who will be missed by so many."

Mr Ayub worked as a Hackney cab driver in Mansfield and was one of the first Asians to move to the town after leaving Pakistan in 1965.

He moved to Bakersfield in 1995.

Mr Ayub suffered multiple injuries.

A man in his 50s was arrested near to the crash and has been released on police bail. It is not yet clear who was driving the car.

This guy is going to be missed by everyone including me.

Charles you're nit picking that's just his signature. I never changed mine and lots of people don't charge theirs when they post sad news or any news for that matter it's not being disrespectful, at least not IMO
