Drug Possession Minibus Driver Was Operating Illegally

Monday 3rd August 2009

Council bosses say a man jailed for hiding more than a kilo of cocaine in his minibus was operating illegallly.

Darren Catterall, aged 37, was jailed for five years and eight months at Warrington Crown Court after admitting charges of drug possession.

Catterall, from Tavlin Avnue in Dallam, had been refused a licence back in 2000 because of previous convictions.

David Boyer, head of sustainable transportation at the council said: “He was in fact not licensed to drive a taxi or public hire vehicle in the borough of Warrington and this timely case further reinforces the importance of licensing.

“In November 2000 a Mr Catterall applied for a private hire driving licence from the council however no such licence was issued."

I take it he had another licence such as the PSV. My question would be 'how did he get that one'?. This chap has been driving the public around for 9 years and they seem quite proud of the fact that they've now caught him and proved he's still a naughty boy, ffs

Almost nine years operating illegally. Now that's a good licensing system you have in Warrington.

Time for NVQs in Taxi Licensing!!

If licensing is important to the Muppets in Warrington, they would have twigged this illegal operation years ago!!

As I read it, it was the police who found the stuff not the licencing people. Also the reports make no mention of how long he'd been operating for. Could have been 9 years, could have been 9 mins?
