When you go for your application you're not dressed for work and I can assure you that if you wore a Newcastle top here they would replace it with a white jacket and give you paper and crayons to play with :wink: That aside councils have no balls to tell people that they are scruffy or hygenienically challenged so it is another of those things that they need to consider due to a minority number of drivers

So everyone suffers? A license is issued to an individual.

It's not suffering if you're already smart. The only ones that will need to adjust anything are those that the condition is implemented for :D

I see your point as usual but it is seldom that we do agree about taxi drivers and their conditions. So I concur and think it is time to agree to disagree :D

The best analogy I can come up with is thus;

If a small number of drivers don't maintain their vehicles and they keep failing tests, should you, as a person who maintains your vehicle well always passing your test suffer?

Because councils throughout the country have brought in increased testing and age limits for all licensees for the actions of a minority.

Also, you are a licensed driver, you're always licensed, as is you're vehicle.

On you're day off you decide to nip into town to do some shopping and you are spotted by either a member of the public, a licensing officer or more than likely a colleague, you are reported for not adhering to the dress code.

Do you think you'll get off? Because I dont.

I agree toots, a polo shirt with a latex bask and thigh high boots looks daft :lol: :lol:

A driver was sent home off the airport today for wearing grey trousers instead of black ones, as he signed his contract to do.

But that's because he agreed to adhere to the dress code required by the contractor, it has nothing to do with the council.

I haven't a problem with a dress code, other than it will never be able to be enforced by any of the acts.

My point to a tee.

So surely if the council put conditions on a licence regarding dress codes then one would consider that a driver agrees to the dress code if they apply for and take out a licence :?

My point to a tee.

When you are licensed the council must determine whether of not you're 'fit and proper', unless you turn up in a gimp mask, could you please tell me how a pair of wranglers and a Newcastle United top should affect your application :wink:

CC

If that's how you go out to work, then there is a need for a written dress code.

You've already admitted that there are drivers that look like 'a bag 'o sh*t', so what chance is there of trying to raise standards in that department when some of us dress down.

It sounds like, 'do what I say, not as I do'

Proper tailored shirt, proper tailored trousers, proper shoes & socks. What on earth is wrong with that?

If you want the 'bags 'o sh*t' to smarten up, you have to lead by example & failing that then it has to be written into the bye-laws or conditions of license.

And if you don't agree, then stop belly-aching about 'bags 'o sh*t', because you are doing nothing to improve the situation.

And the individual has responsibilities not only to the public, but to his fellow licensed drivers.

That 'bag 'o sh*t' that takes a passenger today may loose that passenger for the whole trade tomorrow.

52.
Appeals in respect of drivers’ licences.Any person aggrieved by—
(1) the refusal of the district council to grant a driver’s licence under section 51 of this Act; or
(2) any conditions attached to the grant of a driver’s licence;
may appeal to a magistrates’ court.

I'm not disputing that.

But if an applicant were to challenge such a condition of license in a court & the council could prove that after years of enduring licensed drivers dressed as 'bags 'o sh*t' they were forced to introduce a reasonable dress code, then I don't think a court would overturn it.

Usually a condition of license is only overturned by a court if the court deems the condition unreasonable.

I'm not asking for white tuxedos, dress trousers, frilly shirt, revolving bow-tie, silk socks & black patent shoes here; just reasonable dress.

Drivers can still express their individuality with choice of colours, patterned cloths etc. I don't understand your objections to reasonable dress.

I think it's more to it being written into the 'conditions of licence' rather than an objection to a reasonable dress code. As PH I am subject to the dress code required by the people I get my set off and if I don't like it I know where the doors is. As I said earlier I don't particularly think polo shirts are smart but they're not inconvenient either so I'll go with the flow for now

My objections are quite straightforward, LA's have far too much power already, allowing them to be the fashion Police will only encourage their god like demeanour.

I find it quite amazing we have councils trying to sort out dress codes when in their areas they have PHV's plying for hire with apparent impunity.
