Taxi Driver Online

Before I post what I'm about to certain "facts" are hearsay at this time.

We are about to get a new cab firm in town, it's being set up by the Asian community, big deal I hear you say, but!


The agenda is, and here is the hearsay,

1 - The office is a former cab office which I heard someone else applied to use a few years ago and were turned down.

2 - There will be no white drivers allowed on this firm, although I'm unsure of this as one of them who I consider a gent showed me an interest form to fill out the other week, although I'm unsure if he was seeing if I wanted in or was just looking for advice on the matter.

3 - The intent is to take all the late night curry house customer work from the firm that has their number up in every curry house.


The effect of it if it goes ahead is it will probably take 100 or so Asian PH drivers off the other firm, the other firm will lose a great deal of 11pm - 3am custom.

Planning permission is often turned down, but that doesn't mean folks can re-apply as and when. Maybe amend whatever stopped the application last time.


If they decide on an ethnic basis who can do the job, then that's a breach of many many acts.


Taking work from an existing supplier is hardly a new idea.

That's as maybe but if they don't want white drivers I'm sure if one decides to join they will either conveniently have no radios available or the driver may not earn enough to stay or perhaps I woke up in a cynical mood this morning

The success of the company will depend on the area.

It is an unfortuate (and regular) occurance when I am told "Its nice to have a white driver" which I never respond to, as much as I would like to.

If there is a large Asian community then the company may be a great success if they overcome the "No whites" issue. They could possibly achieve this if they stipulate that a certain language is a qualification.

Careful Karen you'll upset the Libs and you know there's one lurking on every corner.

That's the thing about the competition between Curry houses-it's dog eat dog.
