Hahahahaha, it's good to see the old thinker's are alive and well up north as well as down south, 30% discount = 30% less of what you were already earning, also I have to compete against PH that is 30% cheaper than our middle of the league tariff and it has murdered me, difference between the two 20 yrs ago was 10p, average fare is £2.60 with them £3.40 with me, plus they don't charge for passenger or bags either.

To sum up, ppl get a taxi to go from A-B, there is no such thing as a Taxi sale, imagine it, Mrs A says to Mrs B oh lets go for a ride in a cab while they're cheap, what comes next BOGOF!

What you still charge for bags
We charge fare and a half for over 4, so there could be 8 in the cab for that

We've got a few taxi sales on the go. started in May runs to Xmas (and possibly beyond)

For fairness I'll call them firms A, B and C.

Prior to May firm A and B charge full fare inc call-out. Then B has a driver fall out and firm C is born. They drop the call-out and give 10% off the meter (when you show your keyring/loyalty number) and a £75 and £25 monthly Cash Draw.

End June, Firm A go for monthly £50 tesco voucher and £50 asda voucher

End June, Firm B launch a buy 5 get up to £5 off hire No. 6 promotion. £50 draw for taxis every fortnight. Cash draw end October(company's anniversary). No prizes specified.

Early August, Firm A go 10% and a weekly draw for a £25 taxi voucher

Early August, Firm C go 15% off, £75 and £25 monthly cash draw AND a Draw for a holiday for 2 adults and up to 2 kids in Spain. (to be taken feb/mar/apr)

Mid August, Firm A launch a £1000 draw for Xmas.

Speculation rife that A or C will be going 20% shortly. and Firm C will go for a £2k or even £5k Xmas Draw.

Thing is none of the above promotions is from the PH trade, the three firms are Licenced Taxis. Not one of the three has seen a substansial increase in trade, though as part of Firm B I can confirm we have lost less to Firm C than Firm A. In fact we have retained most of our customers through the worst summer I can recall in 13 years of taxiing.

At the end of the day A and C are trying to outdo each other to put the other out of business. We are caught in the middle. We have no desire to join their little [edited by admin] contest, but neither of them is willing to sit down with us to bring it to an end. I only hope that when one of them implodes we're not sucked down with them by default.

All the customer wants is a clean taxi, a pleasent driver and most of all a fair price. The sooner we all realise that the better, for all of the 3 or 2 or the last firm standing.

Forgot to say In April there was approx 54-55 cabs in town, now there's 65-68. There's probably work for 45-50 max. A equation for the drivers hours thread to ponder?
