There you go Skippy, you're forever telling us how you're besieged by people every time you go into town, and then telling us how you're 76th on the Galasheils rank when you get back.

Why don't you put you're £1200 where your keyboard is and become a Taxi driver in the city? :-k

I'll even lend you the £1200 for a cut in your first year profits.

Think of me as the Duncan Bannantine of the TDO world. :D

Once I can plate my Skoda and that may not be that far away, come on down the DDA  , then I may take you up on the offer, if i get down to my last 20K.

I don't know why owners up there let the council charge that amount for a licence, its the highest in Scotland by around £800, and possibly the UK.
They should challenge it, or would that take another 20 years to go through the legal process.

Has anyone from Edinburgh ever though about contacting the council ombudsman and providing a list of how much other councils charge, he or she must be impartial in looking at this

Ali,

on the fasties site Skull has stated there are currently 24 live apps just now, so basically what you are saying is that these 24 apps will get plates. How do they select, in date order etc and what is the process now for these individuals from CEC.

Jinks

Every application must be treated on it's own merits. The IPL is just a list of failed applicants and has no legal standing. Anyone on it will need to make a fresh application and have no priority over anyone else. There will likely be only one issue of plates. Anyone with a live application will get a plate (subject to the applicant being fit and proper), regardless of how many the report says are needed. Don't hang around thinking about it or you may miss the boat. If you're serious, get your application in first thing Monday morning.
My guess is that CEC will close the door ASAP after the 30 plates mentioned have been exceeded, although they have no choice but issue plates to all current applicants. They can then refuse further applications on the grounds that the demand identified has been met.

Gusmac,

I dont doubt what you say is true for a minute, however councils are notorious for changing the goalposts. I still have this nagging doubt that there will be big surprises to come from CEC and there will be a lot of p****d off ppl who have shelled out hard earned coin on applications. As you say the IPL is not legal and that has been proved in a court of law but the people on it still seem to think that they are priority without even shelling the coin for an application. It is an unfair list as it has been closed since around 1994.

That is why CEC have the largest application fee in the country. It is to dissuade people from applying. IPL have no priority, regardless of what anyone on it may think. Anything other than granting all current applications will see CEC in court again with a case they have already lost before and will lose again.

no chance mate that market is going down the tubes as there is to many of them on the road and the current big boys in PH are killing it as well and you think by a free for all everything will be ok it wont trust me i know this from experiance and its not through fear but if there is a need from more taxi fair enough i just dont see that being the case right now IMO.

why dont you go and try the PH market i dare you go on give it a bash you would then see that things are not as good in a open market. i would sugest that you should spend a bit of time looking in to what is going on and also look at the foot hold that may be given to them in the TAXI trade .
