As I understand it all fairway taxis are to be taken off Londons streets,is this correct?. Can they still be used in other towns and cities or are there plans to remove them from these as well.
I'm trying to answer a question from a pal in the US and can't find an answer but I'm betting you guys will know.

I think it has something to do with safety as the rear doors open the wrong way, and there have been over the years cases where people have opened them while the cabs where mobile and have been thrown out of the cabs, i know that the cabs have motion locking but it has been known to feck up and the doors have not locked

I think it has more to do with emissions than what skippy suggests, which does appear to be the usual sh*te :lol:

We still have 3 or 4 working in Chester which will continue as long as they pass the MOT and Council Test.

They have? You would have to go back to the early 1980's when some of the FX4's did'nt have the safety device fitted for cases like that.

My doors which open the other way have motion locks, I'm not sure what difference the Fairway ones would make?

Thanks for the replies.I managed to get an answer from the London mayors office.The supposed pollution is the issue,not the doors.

They should hold fire on the implementation of this decision until the E7 is approved for licensing by the PCO.

Then you'll have real choice.

:D :D :D :D

All of the London Taxi fleet is now Euro 3 compliant.

The type of vehicle would matter not.

That's true ..... all the older cabs had big engine / exhaust conversions costing up to £3K to make them Euro 3 compliant.

Perhaps Boris wants Euro 4 now?

:sad: :sad: :sad:

Not according to Cab Direct / Allied Vehicle salesmen it ain't.

Even the literature says Euro 4;

http://www.cabdirect.com/vehicles/new_e ... ean_green/

From my recollection Euro 5 is extremely costly for manufacturers to achieve.

BTW Nottingham now allow the E7;
