If you were in a job would you work Sundays for normal time?? I know I wouldn't. All this has stemmed from the shops being allowed to open on a Sunday, we are getting to the stage where it's a 24 hour 7 day a week society.

The blame lies at the feet of the big shops for opening 7 days a week.

apart from the issue of "The Sabbath" (no,not the rock group), mon-friday is "The Week" and sat/sun is "THE Weekend"

normal people get extra for weekends, bank holidays and night shifts, and when i say more, i mean bank holidays at 3x normal reat, not 50% extra...

Yes, the 37 RMT taxi members had a good day in London, whilst the RMT members on the trains were in dispute.

Unions?

You have to laugh.

3X normal rate??? We only ever got double rate and a day off in liew. Did you also know that an employer can give you 6 weeks notice of a change to a bank holiday and substitute another day and then pay basic pay.
The most common use of this power is when some company's change good friday for easter tuesday. You work good friday at normal rate and get tuesday off.

Does your meter have a different rate for Sundays? Ours don't

No trains on Sundays how fab woud that be for the taxi trade. The trouble with our society is we expect everything when WE want it.

Of course I don't agree that there should be no trains on a Sunday but it wouldn't hurt to just provide a skeleton service would it

I wonder if the taxi drivers who work the stations and have to pay for the privilege of picking up the rail company punters get a rebate or loss of earnings package :?: :?:

Who's to say there was a loss of earnings. The punters that needed to get the train but couldn't would still need to get from A to B faster than a rail replacement bus :D

course i know, i was an employer, i had 3 vans and try as i might i could only ever drive 1 myself, in fact i usualy had PAYE drivers in all 3

bank holidays can be included in annual entitlement, the minimum for which is now 28 days since last october, i think.... im a bit un-updated now.
