Put it this way, if I were to be getting into a taxi and found that the meter was already running, I would ask the driver to either start the meter again or I would get another taxi.

And you would be black listed in my cab.

One clever guy named Humphries thought he would jump into another cab after phoning for one. I arrived as he was getting into a flagger & the other driver offered the job back to me, because he did not realise it was a radio job. Humphries would not transfer to my cab, the cab he had booked, so I told the driver, 'Thanks for that, but you might as well carry on with him as he won't get out now.'

Four days later, Humphries phones from a car dealers where he had dropped his car off for service. I get the job. I arrived & after I had confirmed that it was him, cruised to a stop at where he was standing & asked him if he remembered that he jumped into a flagger when he had called for a cab & I had arrived. I told him that I would not carry him & drove off leaving him there. Revenge was extremely sweet!!

I have my principles & pride. I am not anyone's doormat!!

So Mr Grandad, if you hire me for asap or a specific time, you pay from THAT MOMENT for my time, or you do get out of my cab & I do drive away ..... without you!!!

I would rather walk than get in your cab anyway. You overcharge and take the "tourist route" as well.

Does a word processor operator (previous job title = typist) get paid for the number of letters that s/he types in a day or for the time s/he spends working or at work?

As a general rule, I don't charge time for loading passenger and wheelchair into my saloon; However, if they keep me waiting an excessive time before we can commence the operation, then the meter goes on.

I like to treat them as customers and want them to use me again. They won't do that if I rook them. After all, the two minutes that it takes to load them in the car amounts to about 40p on our tariff. Not enough to get excited over in the grand scheme of things.

And that's a fair way to do things imo.

Remember not all DAV’s are the same.
On some vehicles it’s more time consuming than others to set up the equipment.

I should really charge for breaking down the equipment and putting it away, but I don’t.

Just like a customer telling me how much is that before I stop and unloading 20 bags of shopping to the front door :)

Or a regular job transfer and you get stuck in traffic, do you stop the meter I doubt it

I think in the league of things to be absolutely correct then the meter would go on upon hiring, however, if like me you judge ppl on their individual merits you will probably do the same as me, i.e if it's an able bodied person who keeps you hanging around you give him 5 mins and then hit the Nitro button, but if that person is disabled and probably not got a lot of money to boot then you will make an exception for that person and accept you lost some time but you helped someone less fortunate in life.

Maybe not..but Toots will still have to Park up safely and wait til the wheelchair users sidles across from wheel chair to car seat, possibly by use of a board, then fold up the wheelchair and place it in the boot..now I guess thats going to just as long if not longer than wheeling a wheelchair and its occupant into place and strapping them down.

Well by all accounts you have no brains to put into use but that don't save time does it

I have to agree with bloodnock on this. I don't just pick them up and throw them in the seat and drive off do I
