I heard today that instead of collecting member's subscriptions, BASTA are now collecting CCJs.

And one estimate puts the total court costs at around £100K, but as surety for costs was asked for & paid into court prior to entering court for the judicial review, I done know how that could be.

It is over three months now since Passenger Transport Solutions (UK) Ltd were awarded a five year contract for the provision of taxi services at Birmingham Airport, so I think it's time for an update;

Up to now 4 drivers have been given 28 day bans from the airport. The reasons vary; two for refusing short jobs, one for being rude to a customer who wanted a short journey & one for swearing at passengers who wanted a short journey.

If any of these 4 driver transgress again they will get a 3 month ban the next time & for a third offence they won't be coming back to the airport EVER!!!

Several drivers have been asked to leave the rank; two for wearing the wrong colour trousers (one navy, the other grey) & told to come back properly attired.

One driver was sent off the rank for having 4 hub caps missing, making his cab look like a 'bag 'o sh*t'.

One driver now has a doctor's note so that he can wear his black with white stripes 'Andy Capp' hat. So he has the p*ss taken out of him about his prescription hat.

Many drivers have already upgraded their cabs to new ones in readiness for the maximum 10 year old cab rule that comes into force on 1st June 2010.

The discipline is a joy to behold!!!

Is York Station Taxis run by a committee voted in by members, by any chance?

Absolutely no idea, but there are a few threads on here with them being criticised for doing similar.

Personally, I think some in the hackney carriage trade are, by their opposition, inviting private hire into such locations.

It makes me sad in all honesty, people don't seem to believe what rail operating companies and airports put in contracts.

They also seem to think drivers can go to work dressed like tramps, whilst driving sheds.

As confusing as it is I don't believe in regulation of dress or vehicle age policies, but I understand why they happen, and the cab trade is to blame.
