Cabbie's Licence Could Be Revoked

A Scunthorpe taxi driver could have his licence withdrawn for allegedly causing a fracas in front of employees of North Lincolnshire Council.

Taxi licensing watch-dogs will meet next Thursday in Scunthorpe to consider the case which is understood to be the first ever of its kind.

Councillors will be presented with signed statements from three employees in the cashiers hall at the town's Church Square offices.

The cabbie – who will not be identified until the hearing – is said to have visited the council offices on August 6 to request a compliance certificate for his taxi.

The fracas is alleged to have erupted after the driver was told he would have to pay £22 for a duplicate copy as the original had been issued on June 12.

The driver refused to pay after insisting he had not received the original.

After allegedly using abusive language and raising his fingers in a rude gesture, he drove off in his vehicle in an aggressive manner – making the wheels spin, according to witnesses.

Whilst the driver appears to have gone well over the top, this seems to be trial by media, probably 'organised' by one of the three council officials that were 'wronged'.

Extreme hunger during Ramadan can make people very irritable!!

I think it should be a requirement of the council to employ staff that have brains that are not going to be worn away by the constant wiping with tissue

Here we go, this is another tinker with the trade, cabby must be at all times a perfect gent, in or out of work, if cabby is abused cabby must accept it without any retaliation, anyone can say anything they like to cabby and can damage cabbies vehicle, but cabby must not do anything about it.


I had a lad ask me if he got in a fight outside of work would it affect his licence, I'm not 100% but I do suspect it would if someone complained.

Taxi driver's warning over abusive conduct


A TAXI driver has been issued with a severe warning for using abusive language and making rude gestures in front of employees of North Lincolnshire Council.

In the first-ever case of its kind, Ibrahaim Musa Mohamud, of Digby Street, Scunthorpe, stood to lose his licence after working for five years as a cab driver.

But the 35-year-old father-of-one apologised to the Licensing (Miscellaneous) Sub-Committee for his behaviour and pleaded his livelihood was at stake.

The four-strong panel was told the incident happened on August 6 in the council's Church Square offices when Mohamud was asked to pay £22 for a copy of a compliance certificate, which he insisted he had not received.

Licensing assistant Colin Daniel said Mohamud started to raise his voice, shouted abusive language at the staff and twice raised the middle finger on his right hand in a rude gesture.


Mr Daniel added: "He walked out of the building and into a vehicle which he drove off in an aggressive manner, making the wheels spin as he did."

Two council colleagues also gave evidence at Thursday's meeting, saying they had witnessed a fracas and heard the customer use obscene language.

Mohomud denied he had used obscene language and said he had pointed two fingers at the staff rather than raising a single finger.

"I used every-day Scunthorpe language," he told the committee.

"I have used a lot worse on a Saturday night.

"All I can do is apologise for my behaviour. It was the straw that broke the camel's back.

"I am struggling to make a living. On Saturday I worked a 12-hour shift for £46 – and that was before I paid for the petrol."

Joy Wright, an official of the North Lincolnshire Private Hire and Taxi Association, said: "He had shown great remorse and he did not realise what he did.

"Things just got on top of him. It's a serious matter if loses his livelihood."

Mohamud was told the councillors were 'appalled' at his behaviour and warned if he appeared before them again the consequences would be 'more serious'.

I seriously have to wonder about the point in this, a driver does this and is let off with a warning, but if he gets caught doing 35 mph in a 30 zone he loses his badge?
