Who has to apply?

Anyone who works or applies to work with children or vulnerable adults - either in a paid or voluntary capacity.

There is a one-off £64 fee for those seeking employment, which is waived for volunteers.

So the scheme covers teachers, private tutors and sports coaches but also people such as doctors and nurses, opticians and dentists and taxi drivers on education contracts.

Anymore details???? I would have thought the enhanced CRB would be suffice for taxi drivers

I did hear this but the way they reported it taxis where not mentioned, is this the thing that you only have to do once, unlike the crb

Can I ask if there is any other national association/union that has written to the CRB folks/Home Office asking for clarification as to whether we are all going to have to pay for yet another background check in relation to the ISA system?

It's a shame that we can't just do the ISA check, as once you have paid you never pay again.

It works by the ISA folks just deleting you from the list if you do something wrong, and if you are not on the list, you don't get the work/job.

A number of PSV drivers will be out of work once they are all checked, as they haven't had to have the sort of CRB checks we have had for ages.

I have e-mailed the ISA and will post the reply on here, don't want to ask the local authority too many questions as knowing Leeds it will be something else they will want us to fork out for. We have quite a few school runs which is where my concerns come in. According to the ISA website it starts in October

was that the enhanced disclosure? did your council subsidise the cost, because I paid £13.60 5 years ago. I cant see it going down.

edit- checked link, basic disclosure is £23, so I guess the cost is part paid by your LA

sorry Grumpy you are right we did not have to pay,but new applications do.

ive got my copy of my enhamced CRB check here, and my copy of my police record

they are identical

CRB = £36/3 months Police check = £10/2 weeks

BTW, this new check thing, it will include your police/criminal records, also anything you have been SUSPECTED of, even if not charged and will use police "and other sources" for information....

why dont they make CRB and Enhanced Disclosures (if you live in Scotland) Redundant, As every body that asks for one is told they need an up to date one even though they dont have a shelf life on them...and use this one off new check.
