People call me 'mate' all the time when they are getting in my car after a few beers. Then they look at me and say 'oops sorry love thought it was a bloke' that's why I asked. I wanted to know if you was thinking me as just a friendly term mate cos you thought I was a bloke :D

Sorry for my ignorance but I did presume you were male, I won't call you mate again toots but then I can't call you Love either incase that offends. I'll just call you the Boss cos I know that's what you ladies like the best. As for people calling you mate in your cab I fall for that trap all the time, I admit I do call women 'Love' unless they're in suits or look dead posh cos there the ones most likely to moan. All the time though when a lad and girl are getting in my car and the lad jumps in first i always say "allright love" only to realise the big brute's got in first making me feel a right div.

I'm struggling to see what the problem is here, or what it has to do with the Council.

If a guy wants to move customers between two of his pubs and the vehicle has a current MOT stating it's roadworthy, AND the customers are prepared to be driven in the vehicle what's the problem?

Is the landlord charging or trying to charge the customers he's ferrying around?

There's caselaw against it, even with no charge.

He is gaining a business advantage, so it's illegal, even if he is doing it for nothing.

Isn't that what business is about, though; gaining the advantage using innovation and originality over your competitors?

What's the relevant case law?

I don't mind anyone being innovative, but they also need to be legal.

Tuk Tuks are unsafe, I've seen them work in this country and it was only a miracle that no-one died.

As for case law, well you asked;

Interesting.

So pretty much anything which involves the use of a vehicle in connection with a business function constitutes hire or reward...

I don't agree with it but it makes perfect sense and it also explains why nightclubs and the like no longer offer coaches to pick up and drop off customers who live in the sticks.

If they are taking customers in a motorised vehicle from A to B, then yes.

Plus a horse and carriage.

Decision on Bewdley tuk tuk service deferred

A DECISION on whether a pub landlord can use his popular offbeat vehicle to drop customers between two Bewdley pubs has been deferred.

Paul Glover-Winfield applied for a licence to use his tuk tuk - a South East Asian motor vehicle - to ferry customers from the Cock and Magpie to the Hop Pole Inn.

Wyre Forest District Council’s Licensing and Environmental Committee met at the Civic Centre, Stourport, last Friday to consider the application but deferred it until the next meeting, on October 30.

Mr Glover-Winfield, who owns both pubs, set up the free service in June because of the lack of parking spaces at the Hop Pole.

He was forced to stop using the tuk tuk on the orders of Wyre Forest District Council as it was classed as private hire.

People who booked a table at the Hop Pole would meet him at the Cock and Magpie 30 minutes before their dinner reservations for a ride in the tuk tuk.
