It's going to be an interesting case to follow. :?

But whatever the cause of all of this, the outcome has seen one cabby dead, and might see many more sent to jail.

There really must have been another way to sort this.

Hundreds Turn Out In Tribute To Murdered Taxi Driver

Saturday, September 26, 2009

More than 500 people observed a two minutes silence this afternoon in memory of a murdered taxi driver.

Stuart Ludlam’s wife Paula, 42, mum Sheila, 65, and son Matthew, 12, released balloons in his memory after taxi drivers from across the region beeped their horns to start the silence.

Many wore Derby County colours - Mr Ludlam’s favourite team - to the event, which took place at 3pm at the taxi rank in Bakewell Road.

Derby County and Matlock Town football clubs both held a minute's silence before their games to coincide with the Matlock event, in memory of the Darley Dale father-of-three who was found shot dead at Cromford station on Thursday September 17.

The event was organised by friends of Mr Ludlam, Carl Lowe and Antonia Griffiths.

Mrs Griffiths said: “I knew Stuart from when I was a young mum.

“He was a brilliant guy.”

Ninth arrest over Cromford murder

A ninth man has been arrested in connection with the murder of taxi driver Stuart Ludlam in Cromford.

In the early hours of this morning, police arrested a 61-year-old man in Ripley on suspicion of murder.

He will be questioned by officers today.

Three men arrested in Matlock on Friday and two men arrested in Derby on the same day have been released.

The 18-year-old arrested in Matlock was released without charge while the other men, aged 47, 33, 23 and 17, were released on bail pending further enquiries.

Officers have now also released on bail the 34-year-old man who was arrested in Derby on Thursday on suspicion of murder.

Mr Ludlam, 43, of Darley Dale, was found dead in his car at around 12.40pm on Thursday, September 17 on the approach road to Cromford Railway Station.

Is it just me, or does nine men arrested already on suspicion of murdering this one guy tell others reading this that he may have upset a few people in his time?

When they arrest nine it doesn't mean 9 people did it, they arrest members of the same family/ group/ work groups and keep them at separate Police Stations and interview them then compare their stories.

Eleventh Arrest Over Taxi Driver Murder

Police have made their 11th arrest in connection with the murder of a taxi driver found shot dead and dumped in the boot of his own cab.

The body of Stuart Ludlam, 43, was discovered in his silver Ford Focus estate taxi at Cromford railway station, near Matlock, Derbyshire, almost two weeks ago.

Derbyshire police said they had arrested a man and a woman, both aged 31, in Derby today on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder.

A 61-year-old man arrested on Sunday in Ripley on suspicion of murder remains in custody and is being questioned by police.

Eight other men have already been arrested on suspicion of murder and released.

An 18-year-old man and a 32-year-old man were released without charge.

Six other men - aged 48, 47, 34, 33, 23 and 17 - were released on bail pending further inquiries.

Last week officers confirmed rumours that one of the lines of inquiry they were pursuing was that Mr Ludlam's death could be connected to an argument between cabbies.

Detectives called for anyone with information about a yellow taxi in the area on the day of Mr Ludlam's death to come forward.

"Taxi operators in Derby and in the Derbyshire Dales have been speaking to officers and have been very helpful," said Chief Superintendent Peter Lewis, of Derbyshire Police.

"We would like to appeal to the driver of that yellow taxi to get in touch with us and share any information they may have."

Mr Ludlam, from Darley Dale, Derbyshire, was married with three children aged two, 12 and 15.

He worked for Middleton-by-Wirksworth-based MJ Taxis and was last seen by his colleagues an hour before he was discovered dead at 12.40pm on Septrember 17.

It's getting better this enquiry a yellow London style Taxi which are only in Derby, they should be basing their enquiries round Derby City Centre where these cabs work.

It appears the police response is one of arresting everyone.

A 12th arrest made in connection with taxi driver death

POLICE investigating the death of taxi driver Stuart Ludlam have made their 12th arrest.

Today (Tuesday, September 29), a 27-year-old man was arrested in Derby on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. He was questioned and released on bail.

The body of Stuart Ludlam was found in a Ford Focus estate taxi outside the secluded Cromford railway station at 12.40pm on Thursday, September 17.

A postmortem examination revealed that the 43-year-old, who lived in Darley Dale, died of a gunshot wound.

A 61-year-old man arrested in Ripley on suspicion of murder on Sunday, September 27, is still being held in custody.

A man and a woman, both aged 31, arrested on Monday morning, on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder, have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

On Friday, three men, aged 18, 33 and 47, were arrested at the Faraaz Tandoori Restaurant, in Dale Road, Matlock.

Another two, aged 17 and 23, were also arrested in Derby on Friday.

The 18-year-old was later released without charge, while the four others were bailed pending further inquiries.

A 34-year-old man arrested in Derby last Thursday was also released on bail, while a 32-year-old arrested in the city last Tuesday was released without charge.

Police also took a 48-year-old Derby man into custody on Friday, September 18. He has now been bailed.

Ripley man in custody over taxi driver shooting

A 61-YEAR-OLD Ripley man remains in custody on suspicion of killing taxi driver Stuart Ludlam, as police hunt a yellow cab seen in Cromford before the shooting.

Police have confirmed they searched a house in Waingroves Road, Waingroves, on Sunday when a number of items, including shotguns, were removed and taken away for forensic investigation in connection with the inquiry. A spokesman said the owner had a firearms certificate and held the guns legally.

Officers have so far quizzed 12 suspects – including three people arrested in a raid at 6.30pm on Friday at Faraaz Tandoori Restaurant in Matlock – in connection with Mr Ludlam's death on Thursday, September 17.

All, except the Ripley man, who was arrested on Sunday, have been released without charge. These include a man and woman from Derby, both aged 31, who were arrested and questioned on Monday.

A row between taxi drivers is one line of inquiry currently being explored as police try to establish why the Darley Dale father-of-three was shot in his taxi at Cromford Railway Station.

Police want to speak to the driver of a yellow Hackney-style taxi seen in the Cromford area by villagers on the morning the 43-year-old died.
Assistant Chief Constable Peter Goodman said: "Some people in the community have speculated Mr Ludlam's death may in some way be connected to a disagreement between taxi drivers in the area. I can confirm that this is just one of several lines of inquiry we are following.

"The investigating team is keeping an open mind as to the motive behind this terrible crime."

Police still know little about the final hour of the Darley Dale father-of-three's life, before passers-by discovered his body at 12.40pm. Mr Ludlam's mother Sheila Ludlam, 65, and wife Paula Ludlam, 42, have made emotional appeals for the public to help catch the killers.

Sheila Ludlam, from Wessington, said: "If anybody out there knows anything, it doesn't matter how small it is, would they please get in touch with the police. This has shattered my life."

Paula Ludlam said she had no idea why anyone would want to kill her husband, adding: "It was just a normal day. He went out to work and never returned."

Officers patrolled the Cromford area last Thursday, stopping motorists and pedestrians to show them photos of Mr Ludlam and his car and to gather more details. The gun used to kill Mr Ludlam is yet to be found.

Stuart Ludlam, 43, was found in the back of his car near Cromford railway station on 17 September.

Police said the man was arrested in Ripley on Sunday. He will appear before magistrates in Derby on Thursday.
