Any of ours who cherry pick can expect to spend a few days finding out how busy the ranks are. Press the button, do the job!

The major difference between our system and the other large system in our town is if we don't want to do the job we don't have to. Sometimes there are legitimate reasons for not wanting to do a job but most of the time they seem to just want to go forward and are adverse to turning around and going back the way they just came :?

Of course, legitimate reasons may be accepted but, they are few and far between!!

Whilst I don't agree with 'pirating' PH are not the only ones who obtain fares illegally. As we are all aware HC are not supposed to rank up anywhere other than on the ranks provided by the council. I am fed up to the back teeth of going to pubs, clubs and restuarants to get customers that have phoned for a PH only to find I can't get remotely close enough to pick up my customers for HC's ranked up outside them. Oh yes and lets not forget that I have to share my PH system with HC's who will take a job off the system and a flagger at the same time, dropping the flagger off and then going to do the job they have been given off the system. The customers waited forever for their car and doesn't want to ring us up again the HC doesn't give a sh*t cos they can take work of the road if things get bad on the system.

You mean HC's often do radio circuit work, PH style, when it's quiet on the street?

Are you seriously suggesting HC drivers cherry pick, Toots?

Surely not!

The HC we have on our system make up approx a third of our vehicles, they pay less settle than we do and the reason they are on the system apparently is to cover the WAV work for the hospital contract. All sounds ok doesn't it, but, half the HC on the system have opted out of contract work. Do I think they cherry pick? No I don't think at all I know they do

Yeah, me too, whenever and wherever it suits them. It's that basic hypocrisy which makes me sick anytime I see Brummie Cabbie-style self-righteousness.

They'll moan if they see a PH driver parked at the side of the road, claiming they're plying for hire. In reality the driver might just be taking a break, answering a call or a myriad of other things. Have a look near any rank, though, at certain times of the day. The rank itself will be full and another 'unofficial' rank set up not far from there. Of course, this is the fault of the Council or the weather or the PH trade or custard or Thailand. It's never the poor BH driver's fault.

In the example you gave it'll no doubt be someone else's fault that you couldn't get near to a hire you already had. Had that hire jumped in any of their cabs they certainly wouldn't have been complaining.

Yes PH park close to nightclubs, pubs and places of public resort because they specifically want a break, to read a book, to develop newtons theory, the last thing on their minds is the chance that a member of the public may approach them.

If you go to any of the ranks in my city you will always see a long line of cabs waiting for members of the public.

I don't wish to paint any member of either trade as angels, apart from Moi of course, but it may be that PH park in areas to enable good coverage of that area when work becomes available via the phones. Where exactly do you suggest PH park when they are waiting for work :?
