An initiative to help curb late-night antics by revellers in Windsor has been hailed a success a little more than a year on from its introduction.

Taxi marshals were introduced in July last year to manage the Goswell Hill and Bridgewater Crescent areas in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday morning.

Windsor and Eton town centre manager Paul Roach said more than 10,000 bookings have been made in the period, which represents about 30,000 people.

Supporters say the free-for-all that used to exist after clubbers left nightspots in the town has been nearly eliminated, with the moving of party-goers at night in Goswell Hill improved.

This comes despite recent statistics by the police force that show lower level assaults are up by 20 per cent in the Royal Borough from April to mid September this year.

Uniformed taxi marshals now direct revellers between 9.30pm-3.30am, to where they can book a taxi and take the next available private hired vehicle, and are also supported by police on duty

They have done a good job in Derby.Wasn't sure about the idea at first,but they will find you a non kebab carrying customer if you ask nicely.
Also help if you have a troublesome fare,you can take them back to the rank and they will get them out.

I think marshals are the only way forward.

Problem is no bugger wants to pay for them.
