Nofolk Town To Offer Drinkers Free Taxis Home

6/10/2009

Drunken youngsters are being offered free taxis home to avoid late night crime.

The police will pay up to £6 to ferry a reveller home on Friday and Saturday nights when some pubs shut at 1am.

The three-month trial is costing a Norfolk town £350.

Margaret Holmes, mayor of Watton, said: "We feel this is a good thing - especially if it protects young women who are sometimes left drunk."

Sgt Lance Ogbourne said: "People walking home are at their most vulnerable and also most likely to be involved in anti-social behaviour."

I hope that they have asked the taxi drivers their views.

Seriously, though, what happens if the Police call a taxi to take a drunk home and it turns out he or she lives more than a £6 ride away? Maybe even a lot more? What happens if said drunk chunders all over the cab?

I don't think they can force you to take a drunk home if you don't want to. Having the experience I had last weekend with a job I did that the police had called in I'd certainly give it a miss :D

I have it on good authority , tonight, although I may have been inebriated and missed the translation, that our police are to stamp on the b*llocks of anyone f*cking with a cab driver

toots.... as long as they handcuff them all together, and place a bin bag over the heads you'll be OK......they could even use your handcuffs.
