It will not be the sport but the Ambient trim
http://www.buyacar.co.uk/skoda_octavia_ ... _157.jhtml
The 1.9 105 bhp is good for around 50 mpg I have one, long runs have seen nearer 70 if you keep to the limit
take it for a long drive and once warmed up stop with the engine idling, and listen for a sound that sounds like a cement mixer full of gravel that will be the duel mass flywheel on the way out, if all is quiet it will be OK but should it go you can get a normal flywheel and clutch in its place for half the cost
find somewhere you can drive the car in a circle in both directions listen for a clicking sound if there is one its the CV joint
Make sure the belt tensioner and also make sure the water-pump is changed to a metal one
Apart from that it should be OK for at least 300,000 miles if you look after it, by changing and useing the correct oil every 10,000 miles
Try to get at least 6 months unlimited warranty for piece of mind, and don't use main dealers if you can help it for servicing, unless they do the taxi service for £100
If you want the sport they come in 2.0 tdi only now and will cost around 8k for a good one but the turbos are the main worry with them

You get a body kit and 17's, and semi Recaro seats, it does make the car look better, but sadly it still looks like something Murray Walker would knock up at home to appear younger.

used to have a 55 plate 1.9 Td skoda octavia...lovely little car, went like sh*t off a shovel and no matter how hard you booted it usually gave nigh on 50 mpg..only real niggle was wind noise from the strip between the rear quarterlight window and main window on rear door, and it was a bit tight for long legged rear passengers.

other than that..........perfect runner and it never complained..

I can get 4 six foot plus rugby players in mine no problem, and large loads in the boot with it being the estate :D
There is a nice white classic on the auto trader site at the moment

I just got a used one...Mk2 superb 2.0 tdi 140 bhp, really comfy, huge boot compartmemt and more rear leg room than you'll ever need (and i sit with the drivers seat right back)...customers thinks its the bees knees. not bad on fuel either.

A Reccomended motor..

I had the 1.9 130 one from new, the only thing I found was the boot access was restricted, if someone turned up with 4 large cases you could not get them in, the new hatch is the bees knees, and the new estate that's will be on sale from March will be like when the Volvo estate came out in the late 70s a carry anything you want :D
