Yes definitely a hackney carriage  :D
And in bloody good nick as well

The log book will state PLG, not Taxi. Wrong again, Skippy.

It's not a Taxi unless it's LICENCED as a Taxi.

I'm well confused now!!

the layby heading towards BHX has had a sign put up "no waiting for taxis" - so the PH who park there could argue they are in the right.....lol

I'll have a look at that tomorrow morning!

But isn't it already double red lines?

probably, i was at the front a few weeks ago and heard a cop siren at the back of the queue, so went.....lol

why put a sign up if its a red route/no stopping?...

I never noticed any double red lines but I am passing there at 6.00 this morning, I will have a look.
I noticed the taxi sign a couple of days ago and noticed all the PH parked.

Your only partly right dumbo, :D I mean jimbo, before 1995 all hackney carriages where named as just that on the log book it was even on the RFL, once there it stayed as such unless the class was changed, how old is your metro if it was registered before that date it should have it on the log book as hackney

There is a very wide single red line in the lay by but only where the bus stop is. The bit before the bus stop and the small bit after the bus stop have no lines at all.

You can always be awkward if you like but it is probably best not to annoy them too much.
It reminds me of an incident a few years back when one of our limo drivers was feeling tired after a late night job from Manchester airport to Hinckley. He dropped the passengers off and then went to the nearest layby to have a sleep. He had been asleep for around 10 minutes when the police woke him and asked him to move on. He pointed out that he was resting because he was tired but they still insisted that he drive on. I wonder how that would have panned out if he had gone on to have an accident?

Noel Edmonds May Take Taxi Knowledge Test

A spokesman for TV host Noel Edmonds says he may take the taxi test known as 'The Knowledge' in order to allow him to drive a cab in Bristol's bus lanes.

Edmonds has bought a black London taxi cab, which he uses to beat traffic jams on the Bath Rd, en route to the Deal Or No Deal studios in Brislington.

His spokesman Mark Borkowski told Original 106.5: "We only discovered this morning that when it says taxis can use the bus lanes, it means only licensed taxis.

"I've talked to Noel about it and we're looking into the criteria for getting the license. Noel may have to do The Knowledge about Bristol and then he can decide whether or not he takes fares."

Mr Borkowski claimed Noel's taxi dodge was only uncovered after the presenter was followed by tabloid reporters for a fortnight.

During that time, Edmonds was seen driving his taxi in a bus lane on two occasions.

Bristol City Council is currently trialling a scheme using CCTV cameras to snap drivers illegally using bus lanes. Those caught face fines of £60.

A spokeswoman for the council told Original 106.5 they had no evidence as to whether or not Noel Edmonds had broken any rules in Bristol.

Mr Borkowski also denied Noel was using his wealth to buy an advantage over other drivers.

He said: "Noel's car is a taxi. He hasn't got a fleet of cars. He has one car which is a taxi, and would be pleased to see other people do the same.

"I don't understand the argument. Lots of people own cars and they could get taxis if they wanted to."

your right of course

i worked for a firm who ran 7.5tonne panel vans as mobile parts shops

as a "retail" unit they didnt have to use tachos and could use lane 3 of the motorway (haulage/business shouldnt, or that was the case..)

driver got pulled, KNEW he was ok to use lane 3, but reared up at the cops

result - a fine for something else...

TV presenter Noel Edmonds supports Bristol traffic lights campaign

Television presenter Noel Edmonds has given his "100 per cent support" to the Evening Post campaign to cut back on the number of traffic lights in the Bristol area.

Mr Edmonds, who lives near Bath but works in Bristol, says around half of the lights in the city are pointless.

The Deal or No Deal presenter has hit out at the "idiot bureaucrats" who hold people's lives up at unnecessary red lights.

Mr Edmonds, 60, said: "If I come round and steal your money I would be dealt with by the police. If I steal your time, nothing happens.

"I have a real thing for people in authority who steal your time.

"What the council is doing is delaying people by placing traffic lights, they are deliberately stealing that most precious thing, time. I think it's criminal, I really do."

Although he accepts some lights are needed for safety reasons and pedestrians, he argues having too many simply wastes tax payers' money and harms the environment.

He said: "I know we have serious environmental challenges, and they're holding up traffic for no good reason and increasing emissions."

Mr Edmonds hit the headlines last week for buying and driving his own black cab in Bristol so he can beat the traffic queues.

He said: "We've developed into a country of whingers, but we don't do anything about it. My purchase of a taxi was me doing something."

One of his particular bugbears is when local authorities put up traffic lights on roundabouts.

He said: "I tried to get a dialogue going with the council highways department regarding consultation signs on the ring road about putting up traffic lights on roundabouts.

"But they are not interested in doing consultation.

"The traffic lights on the Keynsham roundabout on the A4 are an example. I would like to string up on the lamps who thought that was a good use of public money.

"There are of course instances where traffic lights are needed, but I would say that half the lights in Bristol and the surrounding area could be done away with.

"You've got my 100 per cent support for the campaign."

The Evening Post's Put That Light Out campaign was launched last week with a simple aim; to reduce the number of unnecessary traffic lights in the Bristol area, and see them switched off either permanently or at off-peak times.

It has already received huge backing from readers, Bristol City Council executive member for transport Jon Rogers, and the Government Transport Minister Chris Mole.

We want to know what you think. If you could remove one set of traffic lights in Bristol, what would they be? To submit your suggestions, send an email, call 0117 934 3330 or write to Bristol Evening Post, Temple Way, Bristol, BS99 7HD.
