An immigrant facing deportation from Britain cited ownership of a pet cat with his girlfriend as part of his legal battle to stay in the country, it was revealed today.

The man, a Bolivian who came to the UK as a student, gave cat ownership as one of "many details" to prove the long-term nature of his relationship, his solicitor Barry O'Leary said.

But the solicitor insisted that his client had "never" argued that he should be allowed to stay on the grounds of the cat. Nor had he been allowed to stay because of this, he said.

The Home Office had appealed to the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal against a judgment allowing the man to stay in the country.

Mr O'Leary said: "We were never arguing on the basis that the cat was material. We argued that there is a Home Office policy they should have applied in this case because of the long term nature of the couple's relationship.

"The immigration judge found that was the reason the appeal should be allowed."

His logic was OK on this one.

When you have a World War you get loads of the kind of people who beat up, rob, stab & kill taxi drivers & others & they are in the front line on all sides in the conflict. They blow each other to bits & then when the population has been 'pruned' the Generals say, 'arley barley'.

Sadly it's true what Brum's dad said, it brings back a sense of unification and respect after it's all finished, it also reduces numbers so you find those that remain can compete for the communial pot in a more beneficial way, personally I think the Chinese have it right and their lesson should be moved out to other parts of the over populated world, limit birth and you don't require war, in another 50 years China will be able to rid itself of the poverty and gain all sorts of other benefits due to a population reducing by at least 50% by then due to natural causes, it's the man model of the future, regulate birth, remove all sorts of resource problems.
