After reading the report i do not think they know which way to go.What i did notice was there as very little said on drivers health and safety.

i wonder how many of us would like to be part of a funded demonstration scheme,i am not to sure it would work.

Another part that interested me was that nearly all respondents specify that nationwide research should be conducted to determine true demand levels to enable a decision as to whether there is an overall need for change, should this have not been done first.
Also it is going to take more than changing taxis to make the taxi trade accessible ie, positioning of ranks, kerb heights, guide rails, better lighting, pavement width.

There also seems to be a concern of hacks changing to ph ,i can see some sort of regulation for ph.

I agree ,it looks like the equality bill might have bailed him out. What i cannot understand is the carrying out of demonstration schemes surely there is a lo who already have an all wav policy.I also hope that the infrastructure will be changed and not just the vehicles .

Maybe it would work out cheaper in the long run to give wheelchair users a state subsidised dedicated car and driver between say every 20 of them, to be at their call 24/7 and using a vehicle that could carry 4 wheelchairs at once...at least by doing that you wouldnt need 500,000 wavs but only a fraction of that..possibly just 30,000 specialst WAV Cabs who would then have the entire wheelchair user market to themselves.

Maybe the whole issue needs some new lateral thinking rather as the old idea of mass conformity.. :?

Then theyre Happy, the governments happy and we are happy...everybodys happy.

That's the bit the govt won't like.
It costs them nothing to stick the responsibility on us.

BTW most wheelchair users already have the option of a state subsidised car as well.

Thats not how Im reading the news...seems it might never make it through the house of lords in this parliament due it being about the most unequal bill ever to hit white heterosexual british males...because Ethnic minorities, Immigrants, women and homosexuals..possibly martians as well are to be given priority over the poor old straight British white guy in just about everything.

Even the Labour lords dont want tarred with this particular brush.

The bill will become law, but it might have a few amendments before it becomes an act.

Doubt any of the taxi/PH issues will change though. :?
