I often ask myself .. what's the point... for the reality is the majority of the taxi and private hire trade are to tight-fisted to join a union or Association...But want everything to suit themselves.... but there must be no cost to them in either time or money.
somebody else should do all the work, free of charge mind you, while they stay on the road filling their boots, They deserve to be trodden on.

I think the answer is for you, me, the Captain, Mr BB, NALEO and the NPHA to put something forward and if others don't like it, then tough.

Else we will be back to square one waiting for folks to die before younger folks with sense take control.

Oh and let Londoners do what they like and keep their hooters out of non London business.
If the government are to take notice of the hackney and private hire trade then it is extremely important that all associations and unions speak with one voice,
This means that they have to sit round the table and agree a policy, this will take compromise.... without that one voice they will simply play one group against the other, when their retrospective leaders realise this they will have a voice.

Well said Mr T. Now if that opinion was an airborne virus...methinks TDO would have fewer posts than an illiterate eskimo =D>

I wonder where they get the figures of 35,000 drivers from, that would defect, surely it would be close to half a million.

On the last few pages they have suggested the changes required to meet the dda vehicle requirements, LTI cannot comply with any of that at the moment

" LTI Vehicles suggests that a typical WAV costs £25,000 new" http://www.lti.co.uk/home.php :^o

"Allied Vehicles argues that a national standard for WAVs will stimulate market competition and innovation."they would

Hardly sitting on the fence on this one are they...

Quote:
(a) the assumption that saloon car drivers buy used cars, but WAV-drivers buy new vehicles is incorrect, as the factors behind the purchase decision are unchanged regardless of vehicle choice. On the basis of revised assumptions, LTI Vehicles calculates that the overall costs to drivers of replacing 35,000 saloon cars over 12 years would reduce by £70m to £97m if all drivers bought used vehicles.
(b) more used WAVs are sold each year than new, so the used vehicle market is vibrant and costs to drivers are lower. LTI Vehicles suggests that a typical WAV costs £25,000 new but £9,000 when six years old.
(c) the basis of these revised assumptions is flawed. LTI Vehicles calculates that the overall costs to drivers of replacing 35,000 saloon cars over 12 years would reduce by £70m to £97m if all drivers bought used vehicles.

in that document it trys to play down the real costs involved by suggesting that the trade wont suffer so badly because contrary to the assumption that the trade will not all be buying brand new vehicles to conform or comply and that many more will buying used vehicles so it needent be expensive at all....FFs..just where are all these 2nd hand Specification meeting WAVs going to appear from? out of the ether maybe!...are their current owners going to happily sell them off to those in the trade that are a tad short on the greenbacks to buy new ones..I doubt it.

It was announced... that the Government will be holding trials in three different areas across the country.... and that councils will have to bid to be part of the trials... I assume they will be paid..... the intention is to provide more accurate information as to exactly what vehicles are needed to meet the demands of the disabled.

The NTA members asked realistic questions regarding swivels seats and air bags which then do not work , kitemark wheelchairs.. insurance.. and many other questions which they had no answers for....

As i have said they have not taken the taxi driver into consideration also changing vehicles alone will not solve the access problem. I get the feeling from reading the report that the disabald groups are not happy with 100% wav.
