Well there are a few things that can help you out. If there are no cars in the zone then the system will pull a car from an adjacent zone (this can be upto 5 zones away dependant on system settings) so the job should get covered.

I think he is saying that cars that park illegally are going to be the ones going home with full pockets. Whereas the ones who play fair will lose out.

Surely Auriga or whoever should have pointed that out. But as people before on this thread have said.

THEY AREN'T DRIVERS

Yeh thats excatly what I am worried about , the fact is this system is supposed to get rid of the cheats by them not been able to give a false location. But it just opens up other way to cheat the system.

I have no idea why they have split the town up into so many areas , we have over 130 subs now covering our total operating patch when we used to have only 36. Some of the town centre ones are lesss than a half a square mile.

well thankfully we dont have that problem, we are a private hire firm and although we use also the auriga system, we dont have integrated sat nav / gps etc. im looking to invest in a satnav unit myself so it will make it easier for me to pick jobs up wherever i choose without restrictions, i go through plots all the time without picking up hires due to lack of knowledge of those areas, so it will eliminate that issue at least and allow me to plot a hell of a lot more resulting in better cash flow,,cheers,

How else would you know your call position?
How else would you know if the next zone has only 1 or 2 cars, whereas the one you are logged on has dozens?
How would the office know where you are going to? (customers do change their minds)

If system is setup to dispaatch work too closest car to the job then there would be no ranks required.

Again there would be no ranks

They could poll your vehicle for a gps location

Then again you could have a mixture of GPS dispatch and also zones, so in the City area you could have zones/ranks and anywork further out could be dispatched too cars which are closest to the job.

Also during busy periods you could use GPS dispatch if there is a lot of work to be covered but in quiet periods the system can revert to driver plotting.

Anyway, open too discusion/debate....

A lot of drivers scan areas, and they usaully have a good idea where they should sit.

If they didn't know how many other cars were on the point, then that would cause chaos.

Then we would all be sitting in supermarket/hotel/pub/club carparks. Or in some cases the lad at the back of the rank might be nearest to the job.

That will go down when he asks the lads at the front to move so he can get out.

Tom tom is the market leader in Sat Nav, you will not get any better.

Tomtom 3, can someone who has the system tell me, have been told you can't download wav files to allow road side speed cameras [POI] to make a noise [of your choice] as you are approaching the damm things on the tomtom viewer :? :? :?

it all helps
Thanks

I don't know if TomTom are planning to do it themselves, but the software development kit allows for the entry of custom POI's (Points of Interest). The dev kit is there for companies to specifically add these POI's for their own use. And yes, you would then have a noise as you approach a camera. Unfortunately, it's not a solution that the PDA's-R-Us shops can offer.

It's simply a matter of a supplier to offer the GATSO data as a TomTom bolt-on. The GATSO database gathered so far is copyright so it's something that end users would have to pay extra for.

Watch this space for a booking and despatch software company offering the GATSO data bolt on to their PDA's. Now which one would that be?

i wonder who said the tom tom was good for cab / taxi drivers, someone somewhere is spreading false stories as to the effectiveness of these units. I have several drivers here who have had this unit,,now they find it difficult to sell as they are mass produced and have a ``stack em high , sell em cheap `` tag to it. They are ``s***, full stop. If you want a handy gadget to play with in quiet periods , then buy one, if you need something that will help do the work you are in,,buy a better unit, simple as that/
