our fare is metered, PH isn't thus traffic has no effect on the overall price.

Of course it does.

A job taking one hour is going to be more expensive than a job taking 30 minutes. :?

er, well, not really, as i price on mileage/hours*/passenger numbers, if i get done quicker or slower the price is the same

* as calculated for the price

True...but if you can from A to B faster and safely then you can fit more runs in...that'll be very important when we're only allowed to work 8 hours a day with a compulsory half hour break every ten minutes...

Cab drivers photo M4 bus lane use

The M4 bus lane runs between Heathrow airport and central London
Black cab drivers angry at what they say is the misuse of the M4 bus lane have taken photographs of other vehicles they say are wrongly using it.

Unite said it was "fed up with misuse" of the bus lane by all drivers who were not supposed to be in it.

Only buses, coaches, motorbikes, emergency vehicles and licensed taxis can use the lane, which runs between Heathrow Airport and central London.

But minicab firm Addison Lee has instructed its drivers to use it.

'Massive misuse'

The 3.5 mile lane on the motorway into west London was launched by then-Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott in 1999.

In September, BBC London found the M4 bus lane was rarely being enforced, with only 14 fixed penalty notices of £60 issued in 2008.

There are no dedicated cameras watching the bus lane - and the Metropolitan Police have said policing it is not a priority.

"No-one has put their hands up to the policing of the bus lane and people are taking advantage," said Vincent McGonigle of the black cabs Section of Unite.

"We want to prove to the government bodies that there is a massive amount of misuse. It's only a matter of time before someone gets hurt. Is that when the authorities will act?" he added.

But Addison Lee believes its drivers have the right to use the lane and are willing to challenge any tickets they get in court.

"If we don't get satisfaction in the courts here we will go to the European court because this is a clear act of discrimination," said John Griffin, chairman of Addison Lee.

"We seek to compete, for the benefit of the public, in a way that is fair to all."

How do they come by this statement? Just how will PH or any other vehicle for that matter mean that someone will get hurt?

When you have two lanes of stationary Motorway traffic, a designated Bus lane moving at 50, just add one non english speaking Somalian who's been in the country for three months, one pretend 'taxi' then you have the recipe for a major accident.

You have to work in the same city as these clowns to believe their dreadful driving skills.

They just pull out of the stationary traffic straight into the lane they are barred (by law) from using.

Cnuts.

Strange how Griffin doesn't 'challenge' the Bus Lanes which are enforced by CCTV in town if he's that certain about his position?

He choses the one which the Police say they don't enforce.

Of course this is all down to the cretin from Wembley telling everyone on his daily rantpage about how the lane wasn't being enforced, and now everyone uses it.

Another great first from the enemy within.

Yes calendar meters but some of the work are done with a set fare. I have a calendar meter, but all my jobs are on set fares. I don’t work on the circuits now. As I mention it’s a public transport and customers need to get to their destination. Look at this way, if a customer phone up a taxi company and a hack is sent to the job 1st time and a ph sent on the 2nd time

Ours should, that would cost the average punter twice what we charge when they get lost for the 3rd time during the journey.
