With regard to PH using Bus Lanes; Hackneys invariably use a taximeter which calculates the fare by a combination of time or distance, but never both at the same time (except I am reliably informed in one LA in the UK). If PH charged for sitting in traffic, then I could see your point. But they invariably don’t, giving up their time stuck in traffic to the passenger.

Well surely that's a reason for allowing PH to use bus lanes but not hackneys, as the hackneys will be being paid for doing nothing, if stuck in traffic, whilst the PH lads can get rid of their punters who are paying a fixed fare a lot sooner.

That's not strictly true, yes most hate someone connected to the GMB, but not the GMB.

What difference does having a taximeter make to the suitability of a vehicle to use a certain lane? Having a taxi meter in your shed doesn't make it somehow more bus like, does it? Or is it just another classic case of BH drivers thinking they should catch every break going while making sure the PH trade get nothing?

PH are allowed in some Bus Lanes in Brum. The TROs have been amended & the signs have been amended to include the words 'Authorised Vehicles' meaning PH.

The problem is that most PH don't know about it & as regards Bus Lanes generally in Brum we were told about 18 months ago that a Local Government Act required to be adopted by Birmngham hasn't been. so all Bus Lanes in Brum are unenforceable & are not enforced.

They are just paint on the roads & a few road signs.

The obvious way that Highways Departments think on the subject of PH in Bus Lanes is that they look like private vehicles with the exception of their signage & plate & would encourage other motorists to join the Bus Lane.

But then in Brum no one cares anyway, so what's the difference. Loads of private cars regularly use Bus Lanes & are never prosecuted.

You shouldn't gesticulate irreverently about those that are no longer in this world.

I think the main reason for not allowing PH into Bus lanes is because they look like private cars & that would encourage drivers of private vehicles into Bus Lanes.

I think they should get rid of Bus Lanes all together. Just imagine how much more work there would be for HC & PH with all those bus passengers stuck in traffic, constantly late for work.

BRUMMIE how presumptuous of you to suggest that i hate black cabs.I have nothing but respect for them as i have for any other working class citizen who uses his/her labour to secure a living. I offer retorts purely as a way of stimulating debate.......PERHAPS YOU NEED ANOTHER HOLIDAY!

I am also of the opinion that a re branding of the "BUS LANE" may be imminent, perhaps to PASSENGER MOVEMENT LANE. or similar.

How presumptuous of you Mr Glave to believe that my post was directed, in both its contents, at you.

The correct member answered my post.

I suggest you pop into a Lunnpoly shop.
