Thanx Nigel, always appreciative of support. ..
Grandpa, I know it wasn't you, but I recall having my sanity questioned, buying my old austin . ..,and I will attempt not to gloat . . .( I mean . . .must mind my manners being a guest here and all .. ..but . . . .d#mmit . . . .its really hard, some days, really hard :-o) I think I did, point out some differences, in your cars vs. ours, however
But seriously I know there tuff to get at . . .I find breaking something every coupla hours helps . . .25 foot Stanley tape measure, viscously smashed on solid concrete . .. .feels great!!! . . .really.

Is there a reason for this e.g diesels being more expensive to buy

Yes, its not obvious from the outside, but diesels are built much, much sturdier to withstand higher compression. I used to drive a 18 wheeler (lorrie) here in the states. Typically valve jobs were'nt needed for 200,000 miles, and rebuild at 500,000. A million miles is not unheard of . . .

Cheers, Tim :)

I just wish we could pay £1.50 a gallon average like you do
we are paying $7.00 on average

Going by $1.60 to the pound, or there about exchange rate

Wow . . . .I heard rumours . . . .but wow . . . .

Thanx for the link, Skippy .. ..

I'm kinda wondering if the reverse isn't a better idea, like instead of thinking your paying too much, we're paying too little, seems like theres alot of wasteful driving here.
I hear statistics, like the US is 6 percent of the population but uses 20 percent of the resources.

I see things too . . .get to a gated community, where the gate code the customer has, doesent work .. .Europeons will get out and walk the rest of the way . . . Americans won't

Visiting Europeons will walk to anything within a mile of their hotel, when they learn the area . . .again Americans won't .. .

Europeons are in better shape, can't recall one that was overwieght . . .

I'm not so sure more Petrol tax here, is not such a bad idea . . .

I'm just sayin . ...

Oh, and I checked out the Skoda . . . , SWEET!, above my pay grade, though, I'm afraid . . . I'm more in the "asian pulling a cart/cab" affordability range . . . I lease my current cab, thats the only reason I drive a cab, that doesn't have a hand crank or somethin on the front

400 years ago, King George (I think) sent some Rable rousers to the American Colonies, to settle the land. With help from American Indians, most of the settlers survived, and this week we give Thanks (Thanksgiving) so .. .I'm very Thankful cause we got airport fares, like crazy . . .SOMEBODY has screwed up . . . .cause I'm makin MONEY for once, gotta run, hopefully Alex gets in and he can give you a report on the state of my Black Cab . . . .could get ugly . . . parental discretion is acvised ..

Cheers, Tim :-o

You have a point; I regularly take a 2 mile walk, admittedly to the pub, but I feel good when I get there and feel I've earned my pint, or ten!!

Also, when we visited California, we walked at least 10 miles every day round places like San Francisco, Disneyland, Hollywood and the Californian capital, Las Vegas. ( )

A young couple we met in Disneyland were horrified that we would expend so much energy when transport was available. To our minds, it was the best way to see a place.

A question: How far are you from your local shopping centre and have you ever walked to it?

[PS A belated welcome to TDO, Tim. It's good to have someone from elsewhere who can put our 'unique' problems into context. I, for one, hope you stay around to contribute for the forseeable future. :D ]

And that's why visitor generated takings are well down in London.

The London Tourist Board targets skinflints from poor Eastern Europe who come on Buses, stay in shoddy hotels and then window shop.

They do nothing for the economy apart from block up the already crowded Underground.

As the guy says, North Americans spend money, stay in the decent Hotels, use the restaurants, and use Taxis to get around.

Lets hope they really are on their way out of recession. [-o<

Thank You for the Welcome cabbyman, feels good to be here . . . you are correct, I haven't walked to the local shopping center, and could probably use the exercise. . . I DO walk my dog . . ., but only because of the consequences if I don't . . .

Well it wont be long before you can get one of these, once the police have finished with them, or unless you contact the manufacturer and ask them to make a cab version
