A TAXI driver arrested after a man died following a car crash has been released on police bail.
The 40-year-old male cabbie was arrested on suspicion of careless driving, after a two vehicle crash on the eastbound carriageway of the A127 near West Horndon early on Thursday morning.
Police were called to the scene around 5.20am and found a blue Volvo 940 and a pink taxi had crashed.
A man in his sixties believed to be from the Basildon area - who was driving the Volvo - was declared dead at the scene.
The eastbound carriageway of the road was closed for several hours as police carried out a thorough investigation.
The East of England Ambulance service said it is currently unclear whether the man had fallen ill at the wheel or died as a result of the crash.
The taxi driver, from the Basildon area, has now been released on police bail until February 3 next year, pending further enquiries.
