I drive a taxi cab,but as a personal run about not for a living.
I was though a member of the GMB,in fact I was a shop steward for some years.
When my firm sacked me they were about as much use as a concrete lifebelt, and left me to fight my way through disiplinarys and a tribunal all on my own.
Join them?.I wouldn't even give them the time of day.

Hi Baconsdozen,

Thank-you for your three pennyworth!

It is a great shame that you are so dis enchanted with the GMB. Obviously not knowing your case I am unable to comment.

However, I can assure you that the GMB and myself personally have SUCCESSFULLY represented members in both employed status and self employed status saving their jobs.

Here is another example:

GMB Members On Strike In Leeds Vote To Return To Work On Wednesday 25th November With Threats Of Pay Cuts Removed
GMB would like to place on record our thanks to the people of Leeds who, despite the inconvenience they faced, recognised the just cause of the cleaning workers

At a mass meeting today GMB members on strike in Leeds voted to return to work as a body when they march back on Wednesday 25th November. The 600 striking cleaning workers were entering their 12th week of strike which begun on 6th September.

The Lib Dem/Tory administration of Leeds City Council had wanted to cut their pay by up to £6,000 a year as a way of introducing equal pay. So instead of levelling their women workers pay up they wanted to level the men workers down.

After the meeting Neil Derrick GMB Regional Organiser said “GMB members have voted emphatically to return to work because they recognise the victory that their solidarity over 12 weeks has delivered. 12 weeks ago they faced savage pay cuts and privatisation. Today they have agreed to return to work on Wednesday with both threats removed. GMB would like to place on record our thanks to the people of Leeds who, despite the inconvenience they faced, recognised the just cause of the cleaning workers. The practical support from trade union members throughout Britain has also been fantastic.”

Regards
BB

I can only say what I found to be true at the time, when all this happened the guy at the top was a John Edmunds,he made sure he kept well hidden behind his desk and away from any problems.
It was a long time ago and to be honest had they have stuck up for me then I wouldn't now be running my own company so it's an ill wind.

Agree with toots, that way we are informed by YOU, what YOU, not CC, want us to hear. In that way there can be no misunderstanding or allegations of twisting the facts.

I found this in a message on the ebay site.
Might be of interest.

On 11th November, a Mr. Kevin Offield successfully appealed against Bracknell Council's age limitation policy for cab/private hire, (Maidenhead Magistrates Court), which prevented his 8 year old vehicle from being licensed. The verdict is a big and important victory and had the backing of the GMB Union. The victory can only make Bracknell Forest Council, and others in England and Wales, realise that negotiation is the only policy. Perhaps you should speak to Blackpool licensing about the Bracknell ruling.

Charles, I'm hurt. Cut the bone in fact. You replied to toots and totally blanked my request in the process. Am I possibly related to someone as well?
