In there unmet demand on the moderation front?

TBH I though it shut down years ago.

Mind you reading through it, it might have well.

Still, it gives TF a window to shout through.

In actual fact, one could perhaps suggest by trying to gag Terry the GMb are not exactly behaving in the most democratic way, you will also be aware that the GMb describe themselves as socialists, in much the same way as the USSR did.

I reckon my mate Tel has been sent to a gulag.

June 2008: Common position agreed by the EU Labour Ministers is unacceptable

The Employment and Labour Ministers from the European Union’s Member States reached political agreement on the revision of the Working Time Directive (WTD) when they met for the EU Employment and Social Affairs Council on 9 June 2008. This issue has been blocked since 2005, largely due to the UK Government’s position in wanting to maintain the individual opt-out to the 48 hour average working week. GMB and other UK trade unions have long campaigned for an end to the opt-out.

GMB and our colleagues in the European trade union movement believe that the agreement reached by the EU Labour Ministers, undermines the original provisions of the WTD and is a step backwards in the level of protections that it currently provides, and is therefore unacceptable. Indeed, both GMB and the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) consider that the current text is in breach of Treaty (Article 136) obligations regarding the improvement of living and working conditions and maintenance of improvements.

It is anticipated that the European Parliament will start its second reading of the revised text in September 2008. GMB and our European colleagues will be working with MEPs to ensure that this text is either significantly improved, or voted down.

The Socialist Group in the European Parliament was quick in its criticism of the Council text. Their spokesperson on Employment and Social Affairs, GMB MEP Stephen Hughes said that the deal was “the worst of both worlds” and that “as a point of principle there should be no room for an opt-out” of health and safety law. In an article for Tribune Magazine, he exposes the lie put forward by the Government about the costs of ending the opt-out and reforming working practices in Britain.
