So taking all the above into account, FPNs will be issued to drivers who can then either pay or go to the crap shoot of the magistrates court risking a very much higher fine, costs and victims surcharge.

Unless AL decide to fund an appeal, it will be the driver who's out of pocket but, regardless, he will still have a conviction against his name. Ultimately, a driver with a number of such convictions may have to face the 'fit and proper person' question.

Statement by John Griffin of Addison Lee (25.08.09)

Drivers entering thebus lane on the M4 are acting on my instruction. In my determination to act responsibly in this matter I contacted the Highways Agency who gave me written permission to enter the bus lane.

The bus lane in question massively underused and our experience is that the customers are very pleased and other users are not inconvenienced.

Should we be challenged on this issue we intend to take this matter through legal process and hope to take that opportunity to extend the issue to include all London bus lanes.

There is a matter of discrimination of our trade and the denial of equal opportunity to compete with our competitors. I am confident that commonsense and justice will prevail.

If John griffin instructed his drivers to go through red lights, would they?
If John Griffin instructed his drivers to go up one way streets the wrong way, would they?
Is the Highways agency responsible for the bus lane? I ask that because I don't know the answer.

well Grandad,if JG has a signed letter from the controllers of the m4 lane IE,The HIGHWAYS AGENCY telling him that he can use the lane,he then advises all his drivers of this and tells them that he will pay any fines that may be issued .Could it be argued that the drivers are acting under the direction of the company.........further is this a decriminalised offence or not...should it go to court would be very interesting......oh and by the way JG IS NOT THE LICENSE HOLDER FOR ADDY/LEE so fit and proper does not apply here :-({|= \:D/
